      If it's 3G I don't see why not.

  • does it have to be your name or could you make a fake facebook name and use that. i do not want to use facebook…

    • name not dependent. I used my friends phone and he used mine so doesn't matter.

  • +1

Can you avoid the $4 monthly fee by depositing $2000 then withdrawing it immediately?

    • +1

Yes. It's likely just a check of your deposits per month > 2000.

    • -2

You can negate every second month like that, it will check the balance at the month against the previous check to see if it has gone up by $2000.

    • yes

Remember that all new releases are typically NFT (No Free Tickets) at most cinemas.

    • +2

yes but they are not really free tickets. they probably give out the same ones you can buy in books of 10 for $100 or whatever.

  • Just tried to check in tonight for testing, but nothing happens when I do it. There is no "Check in to claim" button. Is there something wrong with my phone? Or will the button only show up during branch hours?

    • I doubt they could do that. To make it check in during work hours that is.

      • +1

Found out the problem, my phone OS isn't supported by Facebook Deals.

  • Its free account fee for 12months for the facebook deal, according to the branch where i applied at. not just for students.

Also, there is no need to cancel existing accounts. Just add the debit mastercard account, and put a few bucks in it so you can purchase a candybar each month to satisfy the offer conditions.

    • Just add the debit mastercard account

What if you already have one?
      Can you add another?

      • do you mean to say you have a streamline acct as well as debit mastercard?

if you have the latter, add the former? should work

      • If you have complete access, then open a smart access..

  • how would we know if we are one of the first 2200 people?
i signed up to a new account an hour ago, didnt recieve anything from the teller
    =S

    • The "Check in" page on Facebook will have a number and the time when your "Check in" offer expires (normally 3 hours after you "Check in" or COB on that day). I was about #100 yesterday and about #250 today. I think they will keep count until they reach #2200.

      • +1

aww, someone will miss this deal because you signed up twice =P

  • I just showed the deal on my iPad to the bank staff 30min ago. I am the 362th person who accepted the deal and the account is open in 15min.

If you credit your salary into the account, it waives the monthly fee.

  • i tried with an android smart phone during lunch.. doesn't work.. i can't really check in.. luckily i have another phone with me which is an iphone.. works with the deal on the iphone and prompts the deal after clicking on it with the number beside the time.. just a heads up for those who might be using android..

    • +1

Android does work, I used it. Key point is you must find the right "Place" to check in, the FB place might turn out to find multiple CBA related spots nearby but there is only one correctly representing the branch.

      • i was standing near the entrance of the branch..

i do have the FB check-in places and the options to select one location from a number of locations around that area on my iphone.. on the iphone, u will see a yellow 'box' like icon beside the commonwealth bank through facebook app though..

but don't have that option on my galaxy S though.. even though I've switched on my GPS to locate my location and tried it on m.facebook.com and the facebook app.. keeps hanging.. was fiddling with it.. i tried it on my android before using iphone.. shrugs =S

gave up and use my iphone…

maybe listing down the phones tried might be useful.. as their website only says "compatible phone".. some of our mates here have failed attempts too though… depends on the phone GPS approx. location area and hardware too i guess…

  • , , , ,

  • Been waiting for an offer to sign up with CBA after missing out on the earlier $100 deal, so thanks! I'm one of those people who never sign up with a bank without an incentive, hehe.

Went around 2pm, took about an hour as the lady tried upselling me everything including credit cards, term deposits and loans…

Also got a bag in the end that included a foam car and a money box, which was pretty awesome :)

    • the $100 deal is still on isnt it??

      • Yeah, that's for a credit card though, which I don't need right now.

    • Well done & screw the banks ;)

  • I opened mine 1 hour ago. I was #452.
However am annoyed that I have to pay $4 per month where my friend was given the same account for $0 per month. I have been told that this is what the system is showing.

    • How did your friend get it?

      • Just normal in branch and the facebook option was $0 fees. while for me it was $0 in the begining and became $4 at the end.

        • +1

Same thing happened for me as well, but the lady who opened my account wrote down that she advised me it was for the facebook offer and there was no fees (for the first year at least), and signed off on it.

        • Lucky you. The lady who served me changed her mind and said there was fees and that I must deposit $2000. so thought Ok I will sort that out Later.

  • I just went and did this. Took me about 20 minutes, all up. So far, so good - it seems like an incredible deal!

My guy at the bank was amazed when he found out about the deal, and disappointed when he found out that he was ineligible! If I get the vouchers in the end, then it will definitely be worth all the effort.

  • Signed up using Galaxy S2 - was 509 (i think) .. so plenty offers to go still.
Was standing outside CBA trying to check-in .. and "Westpac Bank" came up on the list before CBA !

Took about 5 mins to open the account - too easy.

  • They said the account monthly is $6 per month.

  • i recently closed my account with CBA like 2 months ago can i still do it?

    • Signed up today at around 10.15AM. Was #614, wanted me to make a netSaver but I just told them I needed another MasterCard for just online purchases. No monthly fees( student). Woohoo this is about $20 every month which would have gone into Greater Union's pocket! Total saving is at least $240 a year depending on pricing in your local store

And anyone can get it made, new or existing customer. Only commbank staff are illegible.

  • I just couldn't get the 'Check in to claim' button on my HTC Legend phone with Android OS. Anyone done it on an android could give some hints,e.g. version of the Places etc.? And do you also need GPS or 3G will do?

    • I have the same problem. Using SGS II and Facebook for Android, when I go to places there's no check in deal icon like there is in iPhone

    • I have the same problem. Using SGS II and Facebook for Android, when I go to places there's no check in deal icon like there is in iPhone

    • Seems that the whole world now needs an iThing to survive…. :-S

Mate I got it to work on my Android HTC Legend with froyo aka 2.2

I used "Facebook for Android" Version 1.6.3 (current); In settings > Location > Tick "Use wirless networks" (left GPS unticked"; Then go into the Facebook App > Select "Places" (centre icon) > Hit "Check In" (Top Right) > Comes up with lists of places to check in, i then just searched Bank > found Commonwealth Bank <suburb> - Select it > Then this is the screen that says: "Free movie vouchers with a new Everyday Accout Check in to claim > Check in and away you go, you get a ticket number. > I could only get one ticket number for my fbuk account just fyi, so make sure u use it within 3 hours.

      • +1

Hey it works now! I think it had something to do with my location settings being hidden.
Got my new CBA account within 20 minutes - Bring on the popcorn! =D

      • Thanks for the detailed info. I will give it another go on Monday :-)

  • how do they send the ticket? post it? email?

    • you get some kind of gift card which is loaded with the movie tickets. every month you get a double pass given you perform a transaction every month and comply with their conditions. If I remember correctly, you don't get the first set of double passes until after 2 months.

It will be sent via post. You should consult with the branch when you sign up.

  • The deal is done!

  • Does anyone know the exact time the offer expired?

What was the last time anyone successfully got it?

  • You had plenty of time to get this, thought it would be all gone during the 2nd day but it went on for over a week.

  • "Those who have qualified for the Free Movies for a Year offer will be sent their offer details by post within 2 months of account origination. Upon receipt of the offer details, (which includes a uniquely coded Movie Pass card to use online to claim) customers will have until 31.12.2011 to first activate their offer online."

I opened my account a month ago and have purchased items with my new Commonwealth Bank Debit Mastercard, but have not received a "uniquely coded Movie Pass card" by post.

    Has anyone received theirs yet?

    • have not received mine too

      • I received a letter saying I was eligible, but all i need to do is make a purchase. I received the letter a couple weeks ago.

It said i'll receive another letter to tell me if i've qualified (i.e. made a purchase) . waiting for that.

        • yeap, I got that one too.. But no follow-up till now

        • same here, still no follow-ups
