  • From my experience, Strandbags and others have a permanent "discount" in play. I looked at several online stores on Black Fridat and their prices all match Strandbags for the American Tourister series…and those prices are still the same today at Strandbags.

Oh, and their warranty is useless. It has to be from workmanship error…if the airline breaks off all the wheels, that's your problem…

    • Oh, and their warranty is useless. It has to be from workmanship error…if the airline breaks off all the wheels, that's your problem…

That's how almost every warranty works?

If someone crashes into your new car you'd hardly expect the manufacturer to fix it under warranty, you'd expect whoever crashed into your car to pay for it to be fixed.

    • If it is genuinely the airline that damaged the product there is no onus on the manufacturer to repair it. That said I would never buy their flylite luggage, Whilst there seems to be a decent amount of "airport damage" I believe its due to the terrible quality of their products.

If you search for Strandbags reviews, read the product review page because there are SO many terrible reviews for this brand, so many bad experiences with warranty claims and products failing within the first few uses. Strandbags seem to claim that everything is the airline's fault no matter the damage. I would never trust the brand, considering it is their own brand they also have more financial motivation to specifically push people towards buying it. My American tourister luggage is over 9 years old and I haven't had a single issue in 40+ flights.

Here is only a portion of what I found on there in the first few pages:

"I bought a flyite I believe suitcase last year and only took it for one trip and the zip broke. I noticed that the zip was stiff and I believe during security check they couldn’t get it open easily." (They rejected the claim due to airline damage)

"I purchased a flylite carry on from the Leichhardt branch on the 18/06 and used it on my trip to L.A. and on arrival back to Sydney, I was pulling my bag and the handle snapped."

"I purchased a mid sized flylite bag with 15 year warranty just 10 days ago and one of the wheels has fallen off already. "

"I bought Flylite suitcase in Strandbags Yeppoon to use for my overseas trip. I was disappointed why the handle won’t go down. Coming back I complained about my problem and told her, I rather take another brand and pay extra money. As she knew me personally, she advised me to use the same brand. My bad luck, I had the same problem again."

"I bought two band new suitcases (Flylite) on the 8th of February 2019 from Strandbags in Joondalup, approximately 10 days before an up-coming trip. One of the suitcases had two zips broken on the very first trip. I remembered Strandbags telling me about the 15 year warranty, so I thought that it would at least be repaired under warranty. Well, today (First day back) I was told that they are not covered due to airline damage. "

"Salesperson co-erced me to buy the more expensive, Flylite option, guaranteeing its quality blah blah. Suitcase broke in specific area on very first flight."

"Wanted to share my Strandbag "Flylite luggage" experience about poor customer service and low budget product and value less warranty but got distracted reading all the similar posts that I decided that it wasn't worth the time posting - but now I'm seriously wondering why the ACCC isn't monitoring this site and looking into this Company?"
