Looking for a baby monitor that can be paired directly with an iPhone (ie, not via the cloud) for offline use.

Hi All,

I'm looking for a wifi baby monitor that can be paired directly with an iPhone.

All the ones I've come across use the cloud in between and require a dedicated Wifi Network, which I don't have right now.
Or there's the ones that come with a dedicated parent unit, but that's just another thing to carry and would like to use my phone instead.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

EDIT: just a rephrase… looking for a baby camera that broadcasts its own WIFI SSID that allows me to connect to it directly.

I used to run a Foscam WiFi security camera to our phones using TinyCam Monitor app

You still need a WiFi network, but that's easily arranged by hotspotting a phone or by setting up a router to broadcast a non-internet connected WiFi network. All data remains local if you buy the right camera.

  • Most current baby monitors paired with a phone needs to be via wifi etc……

You could find one with bluetooth but don't know how reliable they are, or even the quality since bluetooth usually disconnects around 5m unless both products have the latest version of bluetooth which can disconnect up to 20m I think.

    • I wouldn't expect much range and quality over bluetooth.
Yes I get the pairing process must be done via wifi, but I'm looking for a camera that broadcasts its own SSID so I can connect to it directly, rather than some middle man in the cloud which requires an actual Internet connection.

Another iPhone and video call? (FaceTime)
Somehow the baby iPhone needs to answer the call automatically. Might be an option/setting/app on an iPhone.

    • This works in a pinch, but phone cameras aren't built for IR night vision.

  • Search for wireless camera with hotspot - there seems to be quite a few.

buy any camera which has local IP access, then set it up on a network with no internet. Generally all wifi cameras are safe if you use a secure, unused password and enable two factor authentication. most hacks come from people who left the default login as "admin:password"

    • Any examples of local IP access cameras? I have a router, but no internet connection. Can I use an old phone.

I use a HDMI dongle (icast6) to watch movies on my tv that I stored on my phone (using Bubbleup/ Miracast). I know i can mirror my phone and just turn the camera on. But would prefer to use an old tablet as the monitor, rather than a whole tv.

  • Buy a standalone baby monitor with screen if you don't have a wifi network currently

We bought a Nannio unit off Amazon a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Similarly, we didn’t want our baby’s room being broadcasted to the cloud :)

  • Buy a cheap router and create a wifi network which is not internet connected?
