Level 1 Trainer Fees - Fitness First

Guys, I was wondering what the going rate is for 45 min personal training session with a level 1 PT. I have been informed that my once a week 45min session cost (at Fitness First) will increase to $100/session. Seems to be on the high side. I've been with the same trainer for 9 months but I'm thinking of hunting for less expensive PT.

    DIY $0/session

  • I pay $70 for a private session with my PT. He also does sessions at Fitness First as well, but I don't know what level he is qualified as.

I'd rather go see a physio at that cost and workout (with their guidance) for free.

However I am working out to avoid/recover from injuries and not for Ga1nZ

OP: I would dare say that the cost is so high due to him/her working at the Fitness First premises.

Ideally, it would be good to not have to use a PT… However they do fill a need and not everyone has enough motivation, etc, whatever the reasons.

My personal reason is that I lack the motivation and drive. Plus I've found that a PT pushes me more than I would myself. And the changing routines every 3 weeks keep things fresh.

I have definitely lost weight, become more fit since going to a PT.

There is no going rate they charge what they like. Bear in mind that they pay Fitness First a substantial fee to use the gym with clients.

  • Train yourself.

  • Getting paid $133 p/hr isn’t bad for a newbie.

Try some group exercise classes =)

  • Why not just get a trainer every couple of months to check your form and show you new exercises. Every week seems like a lot, if you need motivation goto the group fitness classes.

    • I've tried group classes and found them to not work for me. They were ok for cardio, but terrible for weights based training as there was no focus on what the right weight for the individual is. Just said pick any weight you feel comfortable with, whereas my PT is very particular with what weight I use for what exercise.

  • I had a PT years ago and she was rather on the chubby side. I was not motivated at all. She had muscles etc but still not what I had looked forward too each session.

$100hr is high. But that's Fitness First. Ripoffs.

    • chubby is good. natural. entropy.

$100 per week o a PT goes against everything Ozbargainer stands for.

  • do zumba classes, homer , keep it up

  • Thanks for all your comments. I'm going to attend the free group sessions and look for less expensive odd PT sessions.

  • I have had a few sessions with an exercise physicologist to develop an exercise program. From memory it was roughly $90/session and then my health fund would rebate me about $30-$40.
