I haven't purchased a TV for many years so i need YOUR help.
What are some good deals on LED TVs around 50"?
Are the energy consumption benefits of LED worth it (compared to LCD and Plasma)? This TV will be on 4-8hr a day!
I'm in Melbourne if that helps

LED TV is LCD, it merely refers to the backlighting used in the mid-high tier LCD panels. LED LCD TV's have the best power efficiency with some rated as high as 7 star. Plasma generally gives you truer colour reproduction and strong blacks, however are very power hungry compared to similarly sized LCD panels, but inch to price ratio Plasma offer much better value.
To me LED LCD looks better and works for me, but compare for yourself, it mostly to do with taste.
These days 55" LCD is the "IN" size to buy, I just bought myself a Sony HX925 for $3399 at Myer Highpoint which includes the shipping ($55) value, the price is probably the best in Melbourne, but if not a damn good price considering it's from Myer so you can claim or use gift cards.
I feel that the Sony HX925 TV is the best LCD you buy right now, because it doesn't cheap out with "Edge LED" but instead the whole panel is lit with LEDs, the colour reproduction is very true compared to similar high end models such as the Samsungs, which I feel may look "brighter" but is actually super saturated colours and not what you want. But hey it's expensive and you get what you pay for.
