Honda HDMI Multi Media Screen

Bought a Jazz (GF, multi media unit with no CD player) as a no frill spare car for local grocery/Ikea runs.

Been searching online for a hack to either enable HDMI port whilst driving, or the ability mirror smart phone via BT for GPS navigation. Unable to find a solution for the current head unit.

Since Honda Jazz is a popular choice amongst OzB community, any suggestion please? No point spending close to $1k just for GPS.

Thanks!

Please close. Appears no easy fix solution available. Suggestions no longer required.

    rubber sucker on phone
    attach to display unit

    done

phone prolly is similar size and better quality screen lol

  • Step 1: Add HDMI Multi Media Screen
    Step 2: …
Step 3: Double value of car instantly.

    Now, that's what I call a High Yield Investment…

Been searching online for a hack to either enable HDMI port whilst driving,

    Not exactly a great idea

or the ability mirror smart phone via BT for GPS navigation.

BT/wifi mirroring is only on very few Carplay/Android auto units. Majority need to be plugged in

Buy the adapters, and buy a new head unit and be happy

    It's a $10k+ car, it'll be worth it in the long run. It's not a $2k shitter

    • Neh. Would have bought a more expensive car if I am after any more than what came with the car.

Purpose is a spare car when the ND does not fit an Ikea run and partner drives the other hatch back.

Window screen sucker is probably the best option.

      • It'll cost you less than a grand to do. You wouldn't have found a 'better car' with Android auto for less than a grand more

But hey, you do you, just don't come back and complain when a cop sees you messing around with your phone that just fell off

  • If it is the same media centre as my wife's Jazz it is very annoying. I am assuming it isn't the Android Auto or Carplay version.

The only solution I have found to get HDMI working is to switch the DD VSP error off by:

    • Holding the Power, Eject, and Home buttons until screen changes
    • Selecting Detail Information and Setting
    • Holding the Menu button until the screen changes
    • Selecting Vehicle Model Information
    • Selecting DD VSP Error
    • Select Off
    • Select Return until you get back to the normal home menu

After this, the HDMI port will display whenever you have your Audio set to HDMI.

The annoying thing is this only lasts for one drive, and every time you start up the car, you need to disable the DD VSP error again. Once you are used to it, it takes about 20-30 seconds. It really is only useful on longer drives where you might want to use GPS.

THIS ALL BEING SAID… the screen ratio is not ideal for modern 2:1 ratio wide screen aspect phones. The HDMI output from my wife's S10 is actually a bit smaller than the S10 screen due to the letterboxing. The cabling to have the HDMI running into the phone is annoying and there isn't a great place to sit the phone. If you want to interact with the phone, you can't do it on the car dash, you need to touch the phone…

Mirrorlink is a bust and the only GPS app that works with it is Sygic Car Connected which is paid (quite expensive), and isn't great to use. The maps aren't that updated in Australia either.

There are a couple of options to get screen mirroring with touch of general apps working via mirrorlink (so can use google maps etc), but they aren't reliable and are a bit hacky (relies on force closing an app to get back to the android main screen).

I would honestly suggest buying a phone mount and using that instead.

    • Thanks.

Saw the same method suggested online. Unfortunately, different unit. This is the slightly "new" unit without CD player (thus no eject button).

You can try FireStick on yours, reported to work and allow mirroring.

I've tried a chromecast and mirroring but it ends up being just more steps to get things to connect, and the phone isn't charging and needs to remain unlocked with screen on to mirror. I'd imagine firestick is the same.

My ideal solution would be some hack to certify any/all app as mirrorlink certified, then it could just be loaded up through the usb connection into the car media centre. AFAIK that doesn't exist.
