Looking for Basketball Shoe Recommendation

Hey OzBargainers

I am looking at purchasing some new Basketball Shoes, I am willing to spend up to $250. As an OzBargainer I want the best bang for buck. I am a 6 foot 4 forward, 110kg with flat/reasonably wider feet. I currently have some el cheapo Nike Precision III as I didn't want to spend much when i got back into playing after 10 years. I have decided I am keen to keep progressing and feel I need a better shoe and more safer shoe for those mad crossovers hahaha. I rolled my ankle quite bad 8 weeks ago, still a bit ginger. I am looking for a shoe with good ankle support (most important) and comfortability. I play only on indoor courts at my local basketball stadium. Your advice would be greatly appreciated, especially those with similar experiences. I was thinking Jordan XXXIV but they are pricey I am willing to spend it, however looking for ideas and possible alternatives. I live in a reasonably rural town so I would need to order online and be able to return easily if there is issues with sizing etc. Thanks for your time :)

P.S I am US 13 in size :)

Cheers :)

  • '… back into playing after 10 years'

I suggest that you consult 'Basketball Jones', forthwith. Plenty of informative depictions of great basketball shoes in that time-immemorial sporting resource.

As an aside, it will be interesting to see if this helpful advice goes the way of my recent genuine attempt to enlighten a fellow OzBer re certain high-jinx pioneered by a somewhat experimental chap named Sanchez. Please bear in mind mods, that I did not create these historical gems that I oft reference. And check out (the original) 'Basketball Jones'…

    You'll love it

  • In all honestly, buying shoes without trying them on is risky.

It took me a lot of years and a lot of sore feet to realise that I could only wear New Balance running shoes.

I would ask others on your team what they are wearing and where they are buying them.

  • The best way is to try them on however considering your rural location, House of Hoops may be of interest as their policy allows returns completely free of charge, within 28 calendar days after delivery.

  • Hey mate,

I'm also a US13 and have an unreasonably large amount of basketball shoes sitting at home.

If you can still find a pair of the Kobe Protro 1's floating around I would strongly recommend them.

Weartesters have great website and offer several in depth performance reviews.

This pair from Nike is available at a good price and whilst I don't personally own a set friends of mine do and I havent heard anything bad about the shoe.

    • I ended up ordering the Nike Zoom Rise, it is free shipping, free returns and 11% back with Shopback so a no brainer. $125 shipped for a $200 shoe. I'll try them on and see how they feel, if no good i will just return them hahaha. Happy Days!

  • I recommend going for shoes that have a relatively thin sole (less cushioning), as they are less prone to rolling your ankle.

  • Perhaps give the new balance omn1s a try. Traction is really nice and they have 30 day free returns i think. Shouldn't be too hard to find a 20% code off unidays or sone other source like health insueqnce benefits.
Otherwise maybe the kd12 if you hoop indoors only.

Im using the kd12 atm however the traction rubber is too soft to be used outdoors
