Booking a Flight with Qantas FF Points & AmEx Travel Credit

I'm looking to spend my $450 travel credit on a trip to NZ next July. I just found out I can only use it on a Qantas flight. This would be okay if the Qantas flights were not double the price of Air NZ or Jetstar. I would essentially be paying the same after travel credit then I would with a cheaper airline..

Instead i'm looking to put it towards another trip I'm planning to Europe. A return flight would be roughly 120K points + $800.

Does anyone know if it's possible to book a flight with Qantas using both points AND travel credit bringing the total paid for the above flight to 120K + $350?

I've been looking around but as far as I can tell you can only use the travel credit through the AMEX travel site.

    Qantas FF points can only be used on the Qantas site (or call centre) and Amex travel credits can only be used on the Amex site. What you are trying to do is impossible.

    You could sell your travel credit here and turn it into cash though.

      I thought as much. I also did see it was possible to sell the travel credit but not anymore? Looks like doing so is now banned on ozbargain.

    You might consider using the credit one way to NZ and have a separate return.

      I've never really tracked flights like this before, generally what are the chances they do run a promotion?

        Personally, I'd say there's a fair chance that they might run at least one promotion in the next 6 months.

        Perhaps sign up to QF's marketing email & price alerts on Skyscanner & Kayak?

    Just use the Amex credit on accommodation wherever you decide to go. 2-3 nights somewhere should be enough to fully utilise it.
