Read the contact - it'll probably have some clause in there or conditions of work.

It's unclear what kind of industry you're in, or if it's rostered or full-time condition or if you've gone through an agency or employed direct by the company.

  • I'm pretty sure they can, as I assume this would covered in your contract.

Read the contract, then read it again

    Can be pretty one-sided

Always read your contract before you sign so that you know what you're in for. I suspect there is a clause that allows them to do exactly what they did to you. If not, consult an employment-law specialist (not OzBargain forums).

      "law specialist (not OzBargain forums)"
      So, not the same thing?

not same. OzBargain forum is for traffic regulation posting

        • Covered by 'laws'?

@Nugs: absolutely. you can printscreen the forum and bring it to traffic court as evidence.

Not sure what field or sector you're in.

But for IT Professionals, they can let you go before the contract end-date as long as they give 1-2 weeks' notice.

    • Standard 1 week notice

  • You need to look at your contract, but most will effectively have a "termination for convenience" clause that allows them to put you off with (usually) two weeks' notice.

  • Check the contract. Hours/work location etc can be as directed by the client or wording to this effect.

If it's like any other contract I have seen then Yes.

    A) You are a contractor.

    B) Even if you weren't you would likely be in the probationary period.

    C) You are a contractor.

I have been a contractor for 12+ years straight.

  • Next time negotiate your golden parachute clause in the case they want to terminate contract. Only poor contractors sign whatever contact they can get.

But seriously, if you want traffic accident help, post your contract.
