Advice Needed: nbn Roof Installation

Hello All,

I am at the tail end of a house renovation where I have added an upstairs office.

Adjacent to the office is a north facing pitched roof area with easy access from the office which is a regular part of the house.

I was planning to use this space for storage, but am now considering installing my NBN in this area along with terminating the network points about the house.

In addition to the NBN devices I would also be installing a router and switch.

Being the roof cavity, the area will receive some heat, especially in the hot months…and this is my concern.

Just wanted to get some thoughts/wisdom from this community.

thank you.

Brant

    Which NBN are you getting?

    • The good one!

Has that been built yet? Cool. My current NBN (the old one) isn't any faster than my old cable one.

Mine is slower than my old cable one.

@Seraphin7: Glad we spent that $50 billion, or whatever it was. We are now firmly established as a first-world, world class internet country…..said no-one ever.

@oscargamer: The b@stard should never have been built. Total waste of money that has set back the development and deployment of internet technologies in Australia by at least a generation.

I had my NBN fttp box in the roof. It was fine.

Everything else, switch, router etc was outside the roof, though.

    Hi There

Heat and electronics tend not to go well together, unless specially designed to.

I would suggest another location especially since the roof cavity can approach 60C in summer.

    Hope that helps.
