Circle Life - Full Fee for Prorated Month

I signed up to circle life as part of this deal at the start of December

20GB SIM for $18 Per Month (First 12 Months, No Lock In Contract) @ Circles.Life (New Customer Only)

Just got my invoice for the 2 months Dec-Jan and I've been charged $25 for the month of December. They charged me full price for the prorated month despite advertising $18 a month.

I've raised a case with circle life but has anyone else noticed this and managed to get the prorated month discounted? If I had know I would have joined later in the month!

Update: The kind people at circles life have waived the $25 from December. They have gone above and beyond to help me out!

  • Most likely an error on their end, what did they say when you asked them?

  • Upload a copy of your invoice without personal details

Actually it says here in the full terms of conditions:

    1. If you successfully sign up to the Circles.Life $28 Monthly Plan during the Promotion Period
using the Promotion code advertised by Circles.Life and activate your SIM card by 28 February 2020, you will automatically receive a $10 discount on each of your Circles.Life bills for the first
full 12 months to a maximum total discount of $120 excluding the first month which excludes
the first month of sign up which has prorated billing.

    Another unhappy Circles.Life customer.

Can't see them staying in business long term.

Add another unhappy Circles.Life customer to the list.
Just received my first bill yesterday.
December was pro-rated and they added the $10 discount.
For January, they charged me full price ($28 instead of $18).

There is no way to call them up. Chat is the only way to contact these morons.
The Circles.Life "Happiness Engineer" informed me that there was nothing wrong with my bill. They don't discount the first month as part of the 10FOR12 promotion. WTF!!! I asked the rep to escalate to their manager. They still have not gotten back to me.

    Circles.Life == Circles.Scam

Why escalate it? They are correct, they haven’t done anything wrong. As the terms and conditions say it doesn’t cover the first “pro-rated” month.

      • The T&Cs that you quote is for the second time they were running the 10FOR12 promotion that ended in 10 January 2020.
I signed up when they started the promotion back in October 2019. The T&Cs goes something like this here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7870967/redir

If you successfully sign up to the Circles.Life $28 Monthly Plan during the Promotion Period using the
Promotion code advertised by Circles.Life and activate your SIM card by 31 December 2019, you will
automatically receive a $10 discount on your Circles.Life bills for 12 months. Discount issued as a $20
discount on the first bill (covering a 2 month period or part thereof) and a $10 discount on the remaining
bills, to a maximum total discount of $120.

Also by your logic, I should not have the $10 adjustment against the December prorated period. It should have been for the January period instead. However, since this was not the case I would like them to stick to the T&Cs that I agreed to when I signed up.

        • I have just noticed that since posting the above comment, Circles.Life have sneakily updated the above PDF to match the second clause within the PDF for the extended 10FOR12 promo (which finished in 10 January 2020). However, the evidence is preserved within this comment here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7870967/redir

          • @DoctorCalculon: Each promotion will likely have different t&c. That's pretty normal.
            Businesses regularly update their t&c.

            • @INFIDEL: I am not sure why you are defending Circles.Life when they pulled a dodgy one on their customers here.

              Businesses regularly update their t&c.

Yes, they do. But the good ones inform their customers if it drastically changes what they initially signed up to, rather than pretending otherwise which is what Circles.Life did.

              • @DoctorCalculon: I repeatedly warn people to be cautious with Circles & read the t&c. I screenshot them.

You are the one posting in so many places that the changes in t&c are dodgie. It's up to you to show why it is.

Changing t&c by itself isn't dodgie

I have a current case being investigated by the ACCC. And taken a business to court & won. I do understand consumer law.

So show us the proof and the effect on customers.

                • @INFIDEL:

It's up to you to show why it is.

Already did (like back in January). I am not going to go over it again.
You are posting on a thread that is more than 6 months old.

                  • @DoctorCalculon: You linked these accusations in current Deal!

I had posted the same comment in current Deal! You could have responded there!

  • Just ported to them yesterday and had no service for more than 24hours. Multiple chats via online chat. Escalated to tech support, finally able to call out but still no data. Did anyone else experience this? It was ported Optus to Optus network. How long till the data came in?

Activated my port yesterday to Circles.Life from Telstra postpaid for 2 services. The ports went through without a hitch.

Data works, calls in and out are fine.

    No complaints on billing.

    So far so good.

    • Welcome to Circles of Hell, where getting in is easy but porting out is a f***ing nightmare!

Data works, calls in and out are fine.

You would expect these basic functions to work with any provider. No points given.

      No complaints on billing.

Err… You have just started your service yesterday. Too early to complain about any billing issues don't you think?

      • I mean with the first bill, it all makes sense.

Considering people were complaining about their first bill being messed up I think it apt that I tell my experience so far.

I guess I’ll find out about the porting in 12 months from now hopefully.

        • Can you clarify why you have received your first bill if you have just ported across yesterday?

          • @DoctorCalculon: I will correct myself in my wording - first bill estimate had - the app has a “ asterisks “.

            Feb - 25 / 29 Days x $28 = $24.14
            March - $28
            Total = $52.14

I’ve setup automatic payments on due date which I understand to be the first of each month, so my next due date is 1/3/20.

            I chose the 20GB x 2 plan for $28 for 12 months.

            Make sense enough?

            • @teek82: You are on a different circles life deal and not getting any financial discount on the bill. So you won't have the same billing issue I had.

              Feb - 25 / 29 Days x $28 = $24.14
              March - $28
              Total = $52.14

For my example, I signed up for $18 per month plan (normally $28).

Just like your calculations, they charged me the prorated month calculated with the $28, then $18 for subsequent months.

But if you read the previous deal page, they did a dodgy and changed the T&C
