      These things are made out of lithium ion battery cells, which is known to suffer in heat (above 30c) reducing the maximum hold of its charge.
      Extreme high temperatures (like a car in the Australian sun) will cause (like anything) else to expand, and in this case, swell. This deformation can cause spontaneous combustion after that. You can look up videos of lithium ion batteries / battery packs exploding in cars.

      The new technology, lithium polymer is much heat-stable and has been touted as an appealing alternative to Li-ion. Whether or not that's just marketing talk or just because nothing has exploded yet because it's not as mainstream as Li-ion probably is another discussion. (I'm sure someone that knows a lot more than me can elaborate further).

      That's as much as I'd know, and enough for me to consider not leaving these battery packs in the car.
