If she needs a car seat normally, she needs one in a Didi car.

Do you normally have a car seat? I'm not up on the current laws, but I would imagine it is just a booster bottom at that age? Can you just take yours out of your car and use it for the day and just carry it in a bag or something?

Your advice is not consistent with this website.

I don't agree. I think his advice is fine.

If the child normally uses a booster cushion then they should do so in any car. You would have to be a very tall 6yo not to need a booster in order for the seat belt to fit properly. Both my girls were in the top 5th percentile for height and needed a booster until they turned 8.

Sure, you can go without a booster but the seat belt won't be able to do its job 100% effectively.

What the parents should or shouldn't do has nothing to do with the law.

The website I have linked to (a WA Government website) says that it is not required. The OP asked whether it was required or not. I have answered the question.

          • @[Deactivated]: There's a difference between legally required for the law, and practically required for safety purposes.

I think you two were just answering different questions.

      • That advice is different to Victoria; OP needs to look at the regs in his/her state.

If you read the post OP is in Perth. Which is believe is still in WA. Which is what the original link is from.

      • Thanks for the link, it appears it is indeed not needed. Its good to know all these things.

  • anybody knows if my 6 year old daughter can ride a Didi without the need of a child seat

Standard car laws apply to ALL ride sharing companies on the east coast to Uber/Didi etc.

Only taxis have a special law that allows kits to no need a child seat etc.

So you're going to have to use a taxi or but a booster seat and carry around with you.

That said the link above seems to say you might not need it for ride sharing in the west, so YMMV

Not according to the above link

      Taxis and rideshare

      • Drivers of taxis and rideshare services must ensure that children aged between 1 and 7 years are restrained in standard seatbelts that are properly adjusted and securely fastened to the best extent possible given the height and weight of the passenger.
      • There is no requirement for children aged between 1 and 7 years to be secured in a child car restraint while travelling in taxis or rideshare vehicles, however the appropriate restraint for the child’s height and weight is the safest option.
      • child aged less than 1 year can be held on the lap of a parent or caregiver aged 16 years or over while travelling in a taxi or rideshare vehicle, but cannot share the seatbelt."
      • Not according to the above link

Yes things I already said in my post

That said the link above seems to say you might not need it for ride sharing in the west, so YMMV

        • WA is more lax in a few areas of traffic law, and as was shown above, apparently this is one of those areas.

          • @singlemalt72: Good to see there are options out there, normally WA is more strict in many areas

Hire a car for the day and take your car seat out of the other car?

Could work out cheaper then a taxi/ride-share depending on how far away the trip is.

    Just an idea

    • And an excellent idea it is!

  • there is exemption for rideshare in WA regarding child seat. see this

  • The law might state that a car seat isn't necessary, but ffs this is your own daughter you're talking about. If the law (and common-sense) says that in your own car your daughter should be in a booster seat to ensure the seat belt goes in the appropriate position, then why would you do otherwise? Risk your daughter having severe neck injuries in an accident over convenience?

After all, I've seen how some of the uber drivers drive - tired, distracted etc. No way in hell I'd trust them to be better drivers than me and no way I'd risk my kids safety.
