Recommendations for Standing Desk for Home

Hi all

I'm starting a new work from home role soon and am keen to have a standing desk put in at home. We currently have a cheap unstable ikea table so looking for a replacement sit/stand desk (not one to put on top of the existing table). Was keen on the cheaper Zenspace desk (https://www.zenspacedesks.com.au/product/zen-one-height-adju…) but it now says not suitable for people under 170cm.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks in advance.

  • and also $199 from IKEA https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S99084963/ if you want a cheaper, non powered model. It's normally $269 for non IKEA members.

  • I purchased the Matrix electric standing desk from Officeworks a month ago and it is really good. It does take a while to build it.

    • I'm thinking about getting this desk but have heard that it wobbles when you raise it to its maximum height. Has that been your experience? Also, how much did you pay for it? Thanks!

    • Hey man, sorry to bug you - how you finding the Matrix? I read up some information o nit - and it sounds like once you figure out how to reverse the motor, it's ok.
Is it stable / reliable? you've had it I assume, nearly 7 months now.

Only 100KG is a small worry. (my 2 old 30" monitors, monitor arms, 2 laptops etc - probably come up to near the 40kg mark allready)

      • +1

It's great. Very stable and reliable.

I have my two monitors on it (attached to the dual monitor arms you can get from officeworks).

I regularly lean on top of the desk and it has no issues.

My wife loves using it too. The 1500mm model gives you plenty of space.

I've been using it everyday since COVID started as I'm working from home, and I am so glad I set it up beforehand.

Getting this with the motor is well worth the extra cost (as opposed to a manually adjustable standing desk), as you just press a single button, and it moves to the preprogrammed height.

        • Thanks dude - I looked at the spreadsheet of desks and it looks far and beyond the best one - quite cheap, nice and deep at 70 instead of 60cm, weight at 100KG instead of 70KG and finally the max height is one of the lowest max heights but still seems more than enough for me at 5'9"

I don't suppose you can access much of the mechanisms of the gear which operates it? I'm paranoid it'll die without preventatitive extra lubrication (vaseline or bike grease)

I'm pretty tempted - but it's more of a whim than a need.

Thanks for the reply - btw did you flip the lid trick orwharever it is, to stop the knee bashing?

          • +1

@hamwhisperer: I did not flip the lid trick. It isn't that much of an issue, but I recommend you do it anyway.

            • @jamescavs: Thanks for the replies - I'm getting close to buying, just gotta find the money :)

  • I'm currently using this one @ home, and it's on sale atm.

    • How are you finding it ?
      Been looking at that model

      • Hi Kevron. Just be aware of some of the cheaper standing desks. They're often wobbly at full height as you may have already experienced and their weight ratings are often poor. Our desks are solid as a rock and absolutely suitable for people between 5ft and 6ft 8", or 150 cm through to well over 2m. Furthermore they're rated to 120KG. We have a range of desktop options including bamboo and melamine. We also have some desks currently on sale until the end of January. Feel free to check out updowndesk.com.au .

      • I have a slightly more expensive model from the same seller that has memory and 120kg rated it's a great desk.

A lot of shops use the same OEM but different table tops and few accessories like PC cage below are not shy to ask 3x-4x for the essentially the same desk.

Try to stick with a Brick & Mortar store for the sake of return/refund as they break quite often. Ikea ones are decent.
