Fastest Way To Raise Ebay Sell Limit $$

Hi all,

Wanting to sell a high value item on eBay but my account said the max I can list is $5000. Raised the limit to $15,000 by calling them then they told me I have to sell more stuff on my account then I'm eligible for a raise in March. I want to sell the item as soon as possible.

I'm looking to list the item for $40,000. Help?

  • You have the answer directly from eBay themselves already…

    • I was thinking if someone in a similar situation had like calling them back everyday or speaking to a manager, etc

    What is the item?

    • Vintage collectors gaming item.

I wouldn't sell through ebay, way too many scammers who will screw with:

Open dispute with "Item not a described", who will potentially swap out item/s, etc.

They will get to keep your item, get their money back from PayPal, and send you back whatever POS they want.

Sellers have no protection against such individuals.

I'll have a discreet way through the listing buyers can contact me through other social media platforms. Since it's a high value item it's something I'd gladly travel for too.

@Tuftsdude: So just list it on gumtree and put cash in person on the ad. Seems easier really.

@Mechz: Who pays $40,000 in cash? I'm imagining James Bond from Die Another Day with a briefcase full of conflict diamonds.

              Apart from the obvious.

@OzCheapo: I feel conflicted about buying conflict diamonds.

Please note that eBay can and WILL charge you the final value fees, and probably the additional 4% of the total value as punishment, if you link any contact details whatsoever on your ad.

I Would not sell thru ebay that amount unless you have some coupon that limits their commission.

Yeah, I can help you out. PM me your username and password.

    • Not sure if serious or… But no, I can't do that haha.

      • Just name the item. You might score a buyer from here and not pay $440 + 4% commish to fleaBay.

        • Try 13% total including PP .

Anyway for OP one method would be to link an already established account . Ebay normally only permit increases of sale limits with progression of your sales .

        • You're missing a zero on that commission price BTW, its 11% + Paypal fees.

    nothing to see here

  • List something like a photograph of the item or an accessory etc, and state bidding is for the picture etc only, and contact for other items. Kind of how they list "auction is for one wheel nut only".

FYI. If you list an item on Gumtree, at the end of the post it'll pop up saying "Do you want to list on eBay for free". You can list two items for free per month with no Final Valuation Fee.

    Keep that in mind.

  • Do you actually think someone has a lazy $40K for a vintage gaming item. Does it still work?

    • If it's extremely rare and worth it then sure.

I recently sold a retro gaming collectable for $4k. I recently bought a collectable for $1k.

$40k is a different ballpark of course, but I'm sure there's potential buyers out there.

      • 1K and 4k is a lot different to 40k. He would be better of going to some Auction House that specialize in selling these items which would have a client list for those kinds of items I would have thought.

On a side note. With the one you sold for 4k what did you purchase it for originally?, and how long did you have it before you sold it?

Hard to quantify as a lot of hours went into restoring it.
