Baby thermometer

hi,

Could anyone please suggest a decent/accurate baby thermometer? I was looking at the advent thermo set but reviews seem to suggest that it's not accurate.

Cheers,

  • I bought a new Braun thermoscan irt 4520 from UK ebay for under AU$45 delivered. Its the same one that the GPs at our medical centre use. You can still buy new ones from ebay sellers from UK the current models for about $60.

  • We bought one, just the standard type but with digital readout that you stick in mouth (or bum). Cost about $10 - I reckon we used it once.

There isn't really any need for such a thing. What makes you think that you need it?

    • We'd just thought we have to be prepared. We asked and were advised by the midwife to have an accurate thermometer ready. it's the first time for us so we are quite nervous and not sure what to expect. Wouldnt babies have fevers now and then?

      • Yes they get fevers occasionally, but it's no big deal. You certainly don't need to spend $85 for a thermometer.

If they are sick, then you take them to the doctor. The thermometer doesn't "solve" or "cure" anything. So there isn't any real need for it.

It just tells you that they are sick….
… but the only reason that you'd measure them with a thermometer is because they are sick. Make sense?

  • I also have the braun one. The one that Samia786 is quite cheap. I bought mine 5 years ago almost $70. The good thing about digital one like braun it can gives you quick reading. It's pretty hard using the standard one with wiggling baby/toddler since it takes longer to read the temp. But both should do the same job.

  • We have one of the Braun ones… think it was about $80 from Chemist Warehouse. Well worth the money I say. We've used it a lot. A good thermometer is a must when you have babies. They're often on special at chemists… when I bought it it was cheaper at the chemist than online.

  • Can also vouch for the Braun ear thermometer. It takes the temperature within a few seconds so we often do it two or three times to be sure. Cost us $80 also from chemist. I know some retailers/baby shops charge more.

  • Thanks all. I think I will pick up the Braun one from Chemist Warehouse this weekend. It's there for $85.

  • I have 3 small children - we bought a $5 digital one off DX. I agree with llama, if they feel hot then they are hot. $85 or $5 - which is going to tell you that your child feels hot better? much of a muchness.

  • What did I pick up a while ago at DSE for $2? Think it was an underarm one.

So, you have oral/uhh… under-arm and ear. What type were you looking for?

    • You forgot ANAL :-D

Oh, and to answer your question… The OP is after an expensive one.

      • That was the uhh…

Oh…also pays not to confuse the two.
