Issues with calling and SMS with Boost (Recently ported)

Hi Guys,

Got the 12 months Boost plan for wife and ported number from Lebara. Porting done in 10 mins but for some reason the network bars are zero or only 1.

Strangely able to use mobile data but not able to do outgoing calls or standard sms.

The phone is Xiaomi Redmi 4 which was working fine with Lebara.

Moved the sim to an iPhone and no issues at all.

Called Boost support and was told network issue last night. No such updates on the outage page. And it's been abt 12 hours and still the same issue.

Can anybody suggest what can be done or only a new phone is the option?

Thanks,
DJ

It looks like your phone is missing the mandatory 3G band support that Telstra needs, it looks like it would support Optus or Vodafone sim better.

    • Thank you.. is the data working needs a different band?

data is on the 4G bands, calling is on the 3G banks.

If your phone supports VoLTE then you can stay on 4G only.

But in your case, it won't support it. So you're up for a new phone if you want to make calls.

        • Cheers. Thanks

          • @djsydney: Sorry, no good news for you. Your phone is lacking the 3G bands needed by Telstra :(

Either port back to Lebara/Voda and forgo your 12 months boost voucher, or buy a new phone.

            • @JimmyF: Thanks mate. Have a spare iPhone for the Mrs now. Hopefully can manage some days 😂

    • Can you explain which bands are missing? According to that GSM arena page the Redmi 4 has 3G 850/900/1900/2100, and according to the whirlpool page Telstra requires 850 for 3G.

I have a Xiaomi Mi A1 - which according to it's GSM Arena page has very similar bands to the Redmi 4. I was hoping to switch to Boost before that $135 special expires.

      • So, I must have been looking at the specs for the Redmi 4X which has many more bands than the 4.

        • Yeah the 4x was more premium.

I had the same issues on my Redmi 4…
Loved the phone but couldn’t go without calls
