Exclusives Going to Other Platforms

This is a bit of a "break out the popcorn, sit back and enjoy" moment as I am lucky enough to have the major consoles, and a PC, but that is beside the point.

How do you all feel about first party exclusives, eventually / being announced for other platforms? Recent rumours is that The Last of Us 2 may be going to PC as well.

I only game on PC and these days rarely have time anyway. If a game I'm interested in is released to a console exclusively I simply don't buy that game even if it's released on PC down the track. Gaming isn't a big enough part of my life for me to care, if they don't want to sell me a game that's fine.

Due to time constraints I hopped off the hype train a couple of years ago, I only just got to fire up RDR2 for heaven's sake…

    • Enjoy the ride, top game

Not fussed, being on PC there's a much larger selection of high quality games. While it sucks that I can't play Bloodborne, I also don't care enough to buy a console so it can sit and gather dust after I finish the only game I wanted.

Excited as!! Being able to use my 2080 Super/9900kf PC to play games at acceptable frame rates is awesome.

Acceptable frame rates is such a weirdly elitist term.

The overwhelming majority of people who play video games are not playing on high-end PCs. An acceptable frame rate is 30fps which is why it has been the standard for most console games from the 90s to today. Anything higher is obviously better and debateably more enjoyable given that you notice a difference (a lot of people do not know the difference between 30 and 60fps).

      • The majority couldn't explain the difference to you if you asked them, How can you say something has been acceptable when people simply don't know the difference and have never tried something better to know whether something is acceptable to them, it's more so that there always been a lack of choice for frame rates for consoles rather than it's been "acceptable".

Though with controllers the difference is less severe than with a mouse due to mouse moving so much faster but 30 fps is still VERY much noticeable compared to 60 or 144.

  • I think it doesn't really matter.

If the games go to more people and the developer can make more money then that's great, win/win for everyone.

That being said, games that are optimised and fine-tuned for a console are absolutely brilliant, I think the best of the best console exclusives surpass anything available on PC. I much prefer playing the same game on console than on PC (even games like Cities Skylines which are traditionally better on PC) so wouldn't want that to worsen. I personally can't tell the difference between 30fps on my PS4 vs. 144fps on my PC so it's much of a muchness for me and couch wins out.

I only play games on PC that are 4+ year older.
Because I don't have much time and mainly you get a massive discount for old games (usually wait until it's discounted to <$10 on steam).
But usually by that time, the console exclusive have been ported to PC.

    • Which console exclusives are you talking about?

      • Heavy Rain is one example.
Initially PS3 exclusive but later ported/remastered in PS4 and PC.
