Need Advice on Price Guide - Buying a Dealer Used Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 SUV

Hello everyone,

So I’ve decided to buy a dealer used Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 model here in Brisbane. The car has done 7,000 kms and is on sale for $38,888. I’d like to know where should I start with negotiations.. the car comes with everything a new car offers and a 6 month rego. Need advice with what should I offer for this car …

Thanks

$10,000 drive away including every accessory in the book

$9,888 if you're feeling really elite

What you do is you search Carsales, for the year and model of car, price low-high, and see how it compares

    Like so

And you'll find the price is already the cheapest in your state (actually the whole country). So yes, they must have another $30k margin left

But the car is 38,888 ?

What, you don't think you're capable of haggling $30k off? Jees cmon man, try harder!

A neg vote? Jees someone's bad at haggling

      • What they were trying to get at is that there's no blanket amount you can negotiate off a car, any car - it'll depend on the margin the dealer has to work with (yes, they're people and need to eat too).

And for a used car, I'm fairly sure (correct me if I'm wrong), there's nothing like sales targets and incentives that would make it practicable to sell below cost.

    • Hahaha spackbace. Time for another coffee?

    • Hey Spackbace, out of curiosity - for new/demos, would the lowest price on a car on carsales (similar model, kms, area, etc) be a reasonable pricing expectation from a dealer?

Many variables. It's a decent guide for used cars, new/demo generally aren't allowed to be advertised on Carsales and will show on dealer websites only (depending on brand). So unless you trawl every dealers website, you won't really find the cheapest out there

With all the eights it's targeted at an Asian buyer.

If you are not Asian then offer $37,777

    • Should start with $88888.

  • I assume it’s the Active - petrol or diesel?

  • I would offer $36k and a hug

Or $35k and a reach around

  • Depends on how long it's been on the market. The longer it sits in the car yard, the more it cost. Generally used car dealerships have finance on all their cars and the interest free period is around 30days.

So if you know a car has been on the market for 30days or more then the used dealership is desperate to sell.
