Samsung Will Not Repair Your Device without Proof of Purchase

I just had a chat with a Samsung rep over their website.

Apparently if you have any device, from phone, tablet, galaxy watch, etc. they will NOT repair it even if its under warranty without proof of purchase.

Not sure with other companies? is it the same with Apple?

I just had my Asus laptop repaired under warranty, they just check the serial number and they didn't require any receipt.

So if you pay cash, and lost your receipt, then its game over?

Any thoughts?

  • That's not quite true. I got my phone from Optus, got it fixed when I had issues with it. Didn't need proof of purchase. Samsung rep at the kiosk just looked up the date of manufacture using the IMEI on my phone.

    • So that's the main thing, if you want warranty from date of purchase, keep a receipt, otherwise warranty will start from production date, which could be months apart

I wouldn't expect it to be any other way. How else would they confirm that you are the rightful owner of the product? I'd hate for the person who stole my almost-brand-new S8 a couple of years ago to get it fixed for free.

Oh yeah thanks for that one, works a treat!

      • Insurance refunded me and I got a Oneplus instead, which was what I wanted in the first place anyway, before I gave in to peer pressure.

And I've got security cam footage of you now. I have to say… you don't look at all like I imagined, you short, plumb asian lady, with a bob cut, you!😂

    • iPhones don't need proof of purchase but you will need to take any activation locks off else they won't service it. That seems like a better approach.

Sounds fair, always wise to keep PoP.

  • No Sh*t. Why would they fix something if they can't confirm that you are the rightful owner? For all, they know this could be stolen or was purchased on the black market.

You can register your products for warranty. They wouldn't need a receipt in that case.

  • Yup, you also can't get a replacement key for your BMW if you cant prove ownership…

  • I assumed thia was the norm for any product regardless.

No receipt or proof of purchase, no warranty.

    • Except with Asus, I just got my laptop repaired, no proof of purchase, they just ask the serial number, and said yes its covered under warranty, no dramas.

  • newbies..

i knew this like 6 years ago lol..

  • Nah that is wrong. I have given samsung a few devices to repair and only once asked for proof of purchase which was for the note 8

  • My local Samsung store won’t even send a device in for repair unless you pay upfront.

    • I'd accept that.
For these services I would expect to pay once they accept that they will repair the device.

Paid upfront for my note 8 screen replacement and fast charge port, all repaired with warranty.
