What's OzBargain Favourite Microwave Brand/Model?

Hi bargainers,

I'm in the market to buy a microwave for the first time and was wondering what was everyone's favourite brand or model?

Canstarblue rated LG the best overall branded based on their australian survey. Can they be trusted or do they receive incentives from brands to skew their results or push a specific brand?

Thanks for any insights you may have

To advertise you won a Canstar award you need to pay them.

Presumably Canstar are more likely to award brands that are more likely to pay the fee to use the award.

In terms of market leader for sales of Microwaves it is 1. Panasonic and 2. Sharp.

    • That's really interesting, I didn't know and probably something to keep in mind when browsing Canstar

  • Hard to say model given they aren't replaced very often (unless you buy a shit one).

  • Cheapest brand new I could find was $48.00 AUD from Kmart/Big W.

Target cheapest 20 Litre one was $69.00 AUD.

I was going to assume they would be in the $20.00 AUD range but guess not huh who knew.. figures.

Have had Panasonic for over 20years, mum has had Panasonic since the 80s. We are on our third and if necessary would find t hard to pick another.

My favourite feature is the sensor cook. Have no idea how long to cook veggies in a microwave because the sensor is always done it for me.

Choice Magazine liked the LG Neochef 1200W
Bought the 42L model and pretty happy with it, model MS4266OBS
Price about $220 ish, even less if you wait for the right sale.

Some people hated the jingle it plays when finished. There are two in our office and I don't even rate it as annoying.

    • Thanks for your factual response. Everything you said I was able to confirm it upon doing some research online.
I read a couple of reviews mentioning an annoying jingle but besides that it's mostly positive reviews.

Yes, I saw passed OZbargain deals dropping the price to $170 (white model) but nothing to be on right now unfortunately.

I went for the MS4296OBS in black like yours. I'm not sure what's the difference though between yours 4266 and mine 4296. The nomenclature seems to indicate that it is a higher range model but I couldn't find what extra features the 4296 has

    • I have a Samsung ME6104ST that allows you to turn the sound off. I love that option and always have the sound off. All microwaves should have this option.

  • Panasonic

  • Whirlpool!

    Remember them…

    • Yeah. It’s a forum where you can get advice on what microwave to buy.

  • If anyone buying secondhand, avoid the Microwave Prince brand.
Sure, very conveniently wearable, but some electrical safety concerns and ultimately recalled…
    :)

  • LG NeoChef the GOAT.

  • i'd pick panasonic, sharp used to be alright but they seems to be behind times with very basic feature set, meanwhile the Koreans (LG, Samsung) seems to be the leaders in adding bells and whistle on their. No experience with LG but I found Samsung not very reliable, my old company got about 6 of the Samsung 40L microwave in the lunch room and half of them broke within 3 years. Also, don't buy into Breville because they're bloody noisy, like heating food inside a jumbo jet.

    • My last microwave was an LG with the rounded back, mainly because of the rounded corners but also because we used them in a past cafe and they got a hammering by teenagers lol and held up. That microwave lasted around 8yrs, then recently went the Neochef because of that

Have had multiple family members go for Panasonic after their old ones lasted years, but new ones don't seem to be great. They complain about defrosting etc, and the cool down lasts a while

And the Neochef chime is just cool 😂

  • Thoughts on the Aldi 34L inverter microwave with grill for $159 and 3 year warranty? Have a black Stirling from Aldi too bought a couple of years ago that's all rusted on the inside now. So not too sure on the quality from Aldi. But this new one doesn't seem to be by Stirling.
