High gain wifi antenna to connect to weak wifi network?

Hi all, I've moved into a new place with limited internet access options. Basically I can get a 4g dongle and data plan or try to connect to eduroam, which I have a weak connection to in 1 room of the house.

Preliminary research has suggested a high range wifi antenna might pick up a stronger signal compared to my phone and laptop wireless cards (laptop does have a slightly better connection).

I could then use software such as connectify me to turn my laptop into a hotspot to have wifi access throughout the house.

I've also recently seen the mango travel routers, which look interesting. I'm wondering if I'd be able to connect the antenna to that and connect my devices to this router instead of my PC. This would be a great solution to my problem.

I've seen cheap high range wifi antennas on ebay so would he willing to give it a crack.

Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations on brands and models?

    • Just had a look! Seems interesting and would be fun to play around with but looks a little finnicky?

It's a directional antenna. It will work better than omnidirectional antenna installed in most devices. You will need to point it in the direction wifi signal is coming from.

You do not have to assemble your own antenna though. There are plenty directional wifi antennas on the market.

$16, looks like it'd do the job?
