Looking for Beta Testers for Free VPN Service

Howdy,

Over a year ago I posted this forum topic where I asked for feedback in relation to an idea I had started developing.

Time has passed and this idea has developed into a product that I believe is almost ready for general availability.

Product details:

  • Worldwide VPN (*)

  • Unlimited data transfer

  • No browsing restrictions

  • Several Australian locations

  • Simple, easy to use client

(*) during the trial, locations will be limited to Australian ones to begin. This will be scaled up as time progresses.

FAQ:

How do you make money?

To connect to our network you must first choose a location from a webpage opened by the client. This webpage is monetized with a few, unobtrusive advertisements. Our income is generated from the revenue created by these advertisements. This is the only monetization the service features.

What data do you collect?

We record no browsing data. The information we do collect is outlined in our privacy policy, which will be supplied if you apply.

You're a free VPN, how can I trust you? How do I know you're not a honeypot?

An extremely fair question, and the simple answer is this - you shouldn't and you don't. We expect this to not only be the way you perceive us, but also other free and paid VPNs. We're a tool to bypass restrictions and protect yourself from free Wi-Fi, not to whistleblow the NSA. Whilst commercial VPNs can be used to offer you privacy from prying network administrators they are not an end all be all solution to internet privacy. This, however, isn't to say that we're doing anything nefarious (we're not), however it is literally impossible for us to prove that at any given time we're not constantly recording every website you visit.

To become a beta tester: If you're interested in trialing the service please make a reply and I'll send you a direct message.

Comments

  • Can I get US Netflix with your service?

    • Exceptionally unlikely, Netflix have blocked most data center IP ranges.

      If you're interested in trialing the service anyway let me know.

    • +2

      Make your own vpn through Amazon web services for a free us VPN.

      • Probably won't work with Netflix though - AWS was hit in the first wave of blocks way back in 2017.

        • Worked for me back when pia was first blocked. Haven't used it for ages though.

    • It works with Windscribe for free

      • Correct me if I'm wrong AFAIK it only works on their "Windflix" locations that are premium only?

        • It works on all their servers now. It used to be just the windflix servers.

  • I'm interested in giving it a go, what devices are supported?

    • Currently just Windows, Linux (debian based) and MacOS with support coming in the future for mobile devices.

      • Can give it a go with Mac OS

  • Happy to test how this model works.

  • Im happy to test

    • You've got your PMs set to no new conversations.

      Shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up.

  • I'm keen on trying out the Linux client for you.

  • Would love to try it on Windows and some Chromebooks (with your debian).

    • I'm not very familiar with Chromebooks, do they have access to the Debian package repository? My client relies on this to download dependencies on Linux.

      In future builds I'll see if I can slip binaries in with the program like we do on Windows and MacOS.

      • Ah I see - I thought it'd be a .deb (easy to install on Chromebook), but an appimage might take some fiddling.

  • I can test for Windows.

  • Happy to test if you have Android App or Chrome Extension

  • Good to test

  • I am interested to test this VPN and try hotstar india using android VPN app..

  • Yes, I wan to test it. Plz send me a link. Thanks

  • Can you support channel bonding for faster upload and download like https://speedify.com/desktop-vpn/ ?

  • Would also like to test. Thanks

    Good to hear you've continued this project and in a beta stage.

    Just out of curiosity (whether the laws have changed); if you were an Australian VPN, you used to be classed as an ISP (ridiculous, but the government doesn't/didn't know the difference!) This means that you're subject to have a name and address associated with an account/user, and are subject to the data retention laws (metadata, no browsing history though).

    Though, it was easy to get around this by not being an Australian VPN (though not sure about income/tax?). Is this still the case?

    If you're happy to note, what kind of infrastructure are you running? What, if any, issues have you come across getting this project up? Cheers!

    • Howdy, cheers mate.

      I presume you're referring to the 2015 Data Retention Act? I've done a bit of research into it and here's my interpretation.

      Under Schedule 1 of the act the data retention provisions must be carried out by those who meet the following criteria:

      (a) it is a service for carrying communications, or enabling communications to be carried, by means of guided or unguided electromagnetic energy or both; and

      (b) it is a service:

      (i) operated by a carrier; or

      (ii) operated by an internet service provider (within the meaning of Schedule 5 to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992); or

      (iii) of a kind for which a declaration under subsection (3A) is in force; and

      (c) the person operating the service owns or operates, in Australia, infrastructure that enables the provision of any of its relevant services;

      Obviously A applies.

      B i is in reference to a carrier license granted by the ACMA, which is required if you own/operate 'network units'.

      A network unit, as defined by Division 2 of Part 2 of the Telecommunications Act of 1997 is -

      (a) a single line link connecting distinct places in Australia, where the line link meets certain minimum distance requirements;

      (b) multiple line links connecting distinct places in Australia, where the line links meet certain minimum distance requirements;

      (c) a designated radiocommunications facility;

      (d) a facility specified in a Ministerial determination.

      Now, I obviously do not own any line links as I'm not an ISP. So b i does not apply.

      b ii makes reference to the definition of an internet service provider, which is -

      [..] if a person supplies, or proposes to supply, an internet carriage service to the public, the person is an internet service provider.

      I do not provide access to an internet carriage service (by definition of a VPN you must already have a working internet connection to use the service). So b ii does not apply.

      b iii states that

      The Minister may, by legislative instrument, declare a service to be a service to which this Part applies.

      As far as I'm aware, and I may be incorrect no such legislation exists expanding the reach of this act to encompass VPNs.

      Therefore, as b is not applicable neither is c.

      IANAL and this is just my interpretation of reading the legislation.
