Find out Qantas Points Cost of a Flight?

Hi

I'm trying to figure out how much it will cost in QFF points to go from Sydney to Amsterdam and return. This is easy enough to get the points (around 130k), but the problem is that it clearly says I will need to pay taxes, fees, airport, etc - however it doesn't actually tell me how much, even after picking the flights. I don't have enough points to proceed to purchasing, so I am really frustrated to not be able to know how much it will cost.

Can anyone with more points plz look it up for me? And if there is a way to find out that I'm just not aware of, would be appreciated if you tell me.

Thanks

  • About $600 return
if you ring them they will tell you an accurate figure.

      Don't bother ringing Qantas.

You will wait hours on hold and they will tell you what I say below — it depends on the precise flights you book.

    • Thanks to you and others who gave estimates.

Follow up question, is it worthwhile then? If you can get equivalent flights with the same airlines (maybe some some discounts) for about $1200-$1300, you are basically paying 120k points (in theory worth about $1,200) to save only $600-$700 at most ?

Does that mean that some routes are more favourable in terms of value for money in terms of points vs other charges? Is there some idea of what these are?

  • You can use ITA Matrix to get an estimate

    • OP isn't asking how much a normal fare costs - they're asking about the fees and taxes component of a points redemption.

    • ITA Matrix doesn't always separately list fuel/carrier surcharges that Qantas charges on award tickets so this method is not reliable.

It is impossible to give you a precise figure ahead of time because it will depend on precisely which flights you book.

Taxes on Qantas are different from taxes on Emirates, for example.

But to give you a rough idea.

Flying in Economy on Qantas then British Airways (Sydney-Singapore-London-Amsterdam and return), it will cost 120,400 points and $644.74 in taxes/charges.

Flying in Economy on Cathay Pacific on the way there and British Airways on the way home (Sydney-Hong Kong-Amsterdam then Amsterdam-London-Singapore-Sydney), it will cost 132,400 points and $1001.30 in taxes/charges.

  • I am happy to look it up if you tell me the exact flights/route/dates you are looking to book (if known)?

    • 1st Sep - 31st Sep, no more than 1 stopover (could be through KH or Dubai, I don't mind other options, so long as no more than 1 stop)

Flying Sydney - Shanghai - Amsterdam on 1/9/20 on China Eastern then Amsterdam - Shanghai - Sydney on 30/9/20 on KLM then China Eastern says 141,800 points plus $558.36 in taxes.

Generally purchasing international reward flights in economy does not represent a good value use of points. Consider that for a bit over double that amount of points (plus taxes) you can get a Oneworld Classic Award in business, which is essentially a 5 stop around the world ticket.
