Virgin Mobile Smart Caps - anyone else overbilled?

I've been on a Virgin Mobile Smart Caps $29 plan for a few months. $50 for text and voice + 1 GB data.

I can even see the bill before last, I used 800,000 + data and it was all included.

Then this bill arrives and for some reason, they've charged me for all usage above 515,000 or so. My usage was under 800,000 and definitely under the 1GB.

But because they've suddenly billed me for data that is supposed to be included, I'm facing a bill around 10 times what I usually pay.

Did anyone else get this problem?

So if they've billed you for data that is supposed to be included in your plan, have you rung them to query it?

    • Yep. Person I spoke to was confused and confirmed that I shouldn't have been billed for it.

I'm supposed to get an email in the next 5 business days from the accounts department to confirm a bill amendment.

While it's a big plus that the first person I spoke to was able to understand what was going on and that there was a problem (and to their credit, they worked it out quickly too), I'm still a little wary, based on previous incidents in the past few years.

Anyways, I'll update when/if I get that bill amendment.

      :S

  • To their credit, they sms'd me on Friday to say the amount was amended and I think it said, the next bill will show how they corrected it.

(On their website, the amount I had to pay had been amended correctly)

I'm puzzled. If billing is an automated system, why am I the only one who got overbilled like that? :S

Why did I get overbilled in the first place, considering their billing system had billed me correctly for months?

    Strange …

    • Its because the i in your name comes after a d, and your birth date corresponds to….. Nothing sinister here….

      • Thanks for that OzP

        You're always so helpful :P

    • I highly doubt you are the only one! if it is a systematic error then you may be the only one so far to get it fixed

      • I guess it was noticeable on mine, since I know my bill is only about $29 a month :P

So the over charge made my bill around 12 times what I expected to pay …

But I would've thought someone else would've commented, if it was systemic (= it'd happened to a heap of people)

        … curious …
