Looking to buy a new TV and I figure it's worth it to get a smart TV. I am confused by the market - there are Android TVs and others just called smart TVs. I don't totally get the difference. 55 inches would be plenty and don't want to spend more than $1k (the lesser the better obviously). Any advice would be great!

Get a dumb tv and something to make it smart. Much better.
You cant go wrong with hisense. 55 inches in the r6 or r7 model should fit well with your budget
Consider a Vodafone tv box ($72) with a dumb tv. Might save you some money, and the Vodafone tv box is awesome. (and portable).
