Buying a Bed Frame from MyDeal.com.au a Good Idea? Also How to Assess The Quality of a Bed Frame Based on Specs?

Hi all,

While searching online for a bed fame I came across mydeal.com.au which I'm not familiar with.
Is it a trusted ecommerce site?

I was also surprised by the relatively low prices displayed for nice looking bed frames which led me to wonder if it they were quality bed frames.

For example this bed frame is sold $129! https://www.mydeal.com.au/henrik-collection-fabri-upholstere…
How is that possible? I'd be curious to know what kind of quality you get for that price.

However the ones we're hesitating between at the moment are these 2
https://www.mydeal.com.au/queen-fabric-bed-frame-with-storag…
https://www.mydeal.com.au/martina-queen-bed-frame-with-drawe…

On picture they look great and sturdy but you never know.

Also I've never really shopped for a bed frame and I don't know what specs are the best

The $309 one has:
* Aspen wood frame and slats for durability
* Faux linen fabric, Aspen wood structure, Wood bed feet
* Max weight 400kg

The $379 one has:
* Sturdy steel frame
* Strong centre support strut
* Wooden arched slat base
* Reinforced construction with metal bars
* Fabric: Non-woven
* Max weight 300kg

What's the best fabric between non-woven and faux linen?
What's the sturdier between a wood frame and a steel frame?
How come the 2nd model which sound like is sturdier based on the specs has a lower max capacity of 300kg?

What do you take out of these specs? Which one would you say is sturdier/better quality because visually they look quasi similar.

I'd greatly appreciate any insights as I'm a total noob with regards to bed frames.

Thanks

    I'm a total noob with regards to bed frames.

    Please go to IKEA and select the most suitable one for your preference and budget. Don't bother with buying sight unseen online from random places.

    Following, I've also been searching for a bed base. In a rental so don't want to spend much, considering second hand or a cheap online store.

      Why does renting your home determine that you should buy a cheap bed?

  • That one you've linked has those horrible cheap "spring" slats. Into the trash it goes.

  • 300kg weight limit wouldn't really hold up well to "recreational activities" in the bed I reckon…

    I’ve bought two bed bases from my deal and currently use one of them for our master bedroom.

    The base looks nice enough but the quality is pretty lacking - mostly in that they aren’t overly sturdy. Especially the long edge where there’s a join in the middle, it often becomes bowed and struggles to retain a straight rectangle. You might not have the same issue as you’re looking at different models where the storage might add to rigidity of the frame.

    Overall for the price we paid we’re happy, but like others have said it might be best to head to IKEA or similar as a first option.

    • Hey thank you for your feedback, really helpful

  • Some of the sellers use Fastway, do enquire before you purchase. My item was stuck at the depot for two weeks and then deemed "lost". Buyer beware.

    On a different note, the bed is where you don't want to cheapen out on. You spend 1/3 of your life on it, make sure it's the best one you can buy.

    • Thanks for your input.
      I don't want to cheapen out on my bed frame, simply buy it at the right price and not pay for a company's marketing operational cost.
      is $400 the right price for a good quality bed frame. Is a $1000 bed frame worth the extra money or do you just pay for the brand.
      This is what I'm trying to determine.

  • MyDeal are just a marketplace like eBay. Unsure how hard it is to get banned from it though, so it might be slightly less safe?

    Im pretty sure the bed frame I got from ebay is exactly the same as the this one, except mine only cost about low $300s delivered.

    Been about 2 years now, still going fine for 2 people, hasn't broken yet.

    • Nice thanks for the feedback. I'm happy you've been enjoying your bed for 2 years.
      They just increased the price of the bed to $476 from $376 2 days ago though.
      I'll try to find it cheaper somewhere else on ebay or something

    • How is your bedframe holding up 3 years later?
      We are looking at purchasing a frame from My Deal, do they hold up?

      • Still good. Haven't any issues that has made me consider buying a new bed. One thing to note though, is there's no drawer slides for the drawers. Not a big deal imo, but that was something I overlooked.
