Similar flight on cattle class will cost less than $1k. More money in the pocket for shopping.

    • Yeah, I like flying BC but it rarely seems worth it. Guess Im not the target demographic.

I'm sure Qantas used to do Premium economy to Honolulu?

If I'm flying business it's from an upgrade or awards booking. It just costs too much extra buying it outright.

      • A friend of ours son is a 787 pilot for British Airways. He was telling us that 90% of BC flight seats are not paid for by the passenger as it's usually paid by a company of by using points. FC on the other hand is usually 90% paid by the passenger as companies won't pay it and the points amount is too high for a lot of people.

        • +3

A pilot may get information on whether a passenger is flying on a paid ticket or on points… but how would they know (and why would they need to know) whether a passenger paid for it themselves or if their company paid for it? Pilots don’t really come out of the cockpit to mingle with the passengers.

          • @bargainbro: They’re too busy canoodling with the hosties!!

          • @bargainbro: Eh? WTF? I dunno how he knows. Maybe in conversations with his colleagues in the finance, commercial and marketing departments? One thing I do know is that he probably knows more about the subject than some Yahoo on OzB!

Indeed - we were checking Hawaiian's flights out during the week and the extra-legroom economy from Brisbane to Maui (so inclusive of Hawaii internal flights) was $1004 return per person from Brisbane (direct to HNL), which would include the big baggage allowance all the way through.

    • Sure, but with Jetstar, the flights are pretty tough.
Night flight over and you arrive early morning and might not be able to crash at your hotel.
Very early flight back (at airport 5.30am).

      • I did Qantas economy on a night flight late last year and arrived at about 7AM after being awake (and drunk) for 36 hours, only to get to the hotel and be told come back at 2PM. You can book the night before if you don’t mind the additional cost, or you can sleep with the thousands of homeless people around Waikiki if you do.

        • 36 hours AUS-HNL ? RTW ticket ?

          • @MITM: Not quite. I had a domestic connection to Sydney leaving at 7AM which I had a three hour drive to. Nine hour layover in Sydney. Ten hour flight to HNL on which I couldn’t sleep, then a seven hour wait before I could check into my hotel. Could have planned it much better. However I thought several hours in the Qantas lounge at sydney wouldn’t be too bad. Free drinks proved that to be a lie.

With the exchange rate, resort fees, and gratuities, you’ll need every cent of it!

Yeah I got tickets for later this year for under $500. I'm gonna need my money to stay in goddamn Honolulu, accom is quite expensive

    • +1

extra $1400 to spend on accommodation, or $100 a night if staying 2 weeks. Would rather have extra comfort for 14 nights than 14 hours.

  • What is it normally?

The business class on QF 747 will be incredibly old therefore not worth it.

That being said I can't believe so many people go to Hawaii QF will need to use 747s to ferry them.

    • +7

They are flying A330’s to Honolulu. The 747’s ceased mid-late last year, from Sydney that is.

      • Yes, flew with them last Oct to Hawaii

    • Qantas were using the 747's to put pressure on Hawaiian both in sheer volume and also cutting margin on First and Business.

It's worth noting quite a few of the Japanese carriers are using A380s.

      • +1

ANA is the only Japanese operator of the A380 and they do use it on their HNL route

  • Hi op, can you put return on title or description please

      Once coronavirus clears.

      • more infections in Australia than Hawaii I believe

        • To be fair I should say more infections in QLD or Victor than Hawaii I believe

        • +1

Hawaii should be quite safe. Hardly any Tourist from China. Majority are from mainland USA and Japan.

  • No corona in Hawaii right?

    • +24

Kona Brewing is the main one you'll see. From memory corona was available, however not marketed as heavily as over here.

  • does anyone catch 787s on here? lol one way ticket to paradise, or hell depending on how you look at it..

  • HELLO SCOMO

    • SCOMO got some Trump Bux last time he was in the USA. He doesn't care about AUD/USD exchange rate.

  • Is the A380 to Hawaii a double decker, as i'm getting confused googling information on this flight?

    • No A380, but the A330 is operated on this route. Usually the -200 series.

      • 747s all in the boneyard now?

        • Standard 747s are gone. Six 747-400ER remain, due to retire by end of 2020.

A true Ozbargainer shouldn't need to use cash for Business class flights, they should have enough FF points from credit card churning for all their business class happiness!

    • Did that last year!

This year is Japan, UK, Vegas and Canada 🤓
