Reporting an Insurance Fraud Does It Worth?

So I know of someone who made fortune off insurance fraud last year and hes been admitting it openly and calling it hacking the system….
Does it actually worth reporting it and even tho he got paid last year?
Does insurance companies care about it?

    Yes x 2.

It's like any fraud (theft) Eg tax fraud, shoplifting. Ultimately it is a loss that merchants have to absorb or pass onto the rest of us…and therefore it increases the price. A small percentage of people ruining it for everyone else.

    • indeed, in fact he did it more than once and admitting it openly really bothers me, i know what inusrance company he used too, but i just want to know can they reopen the case etc ? or needs solid evidence?

If you have evidence, great. But if not, I'm assuming they will investigate based on your tip.

If they're stupid enough to brag openly about defrauding a company, they're probably also stupid enough to run out of money and try it again in future.

  • Care to share the bargain just out of curiosity?

Could be doing a Salim Mehajer where they stage a car accident

      • +4

He did all of that to get out of court/jail. Ended up back in jail. How dumb can you be?!?

  • +2

    Yes do it.

  • +3

    Yeah, snitch on him

  • How did he do it? How much did he make hacking the system?

Insurance companies obviously receive money (premiums from policy holders) in order to be able to compensate their policy holders in the event they have accident, are burgled, etc.
Fraudulent claims increase the cost of insurance across the board.
Typically, the fraudster will also take out a month by month policy and rarely do they get to make more than a single payment.
So. Your "mate" is costing honest citizens like you, your parents, cousins, the bloke next door….more money with each policy they take out.
He is engaging in a criminal activity.
    Report him.

That's true I was going to report it anyway but was wondering if I. Worth the extra effort to work on giving evidence etc.

Well make sure that person will not find out you snitched or there might be problems, Also make sure that person is not making sh*t up just to look like a superstar. Some people might just brag about hacking when they hear about it to impress the crowd.

        • Am pretty sure he did, I've seen the claim

  • He's not very smart bragging about it!

What kind of insurance is he defrauding? Car? Travel?

Insurance companies have whole teams to combat fraud. Sometimes, it's just hard to prove and it's easier and cheaper to just pay out the claim.

Insurance Freud impacts all of us. From policy owners to shareholders.

Everyone who works and pays into a superannuation fund would own in varying degrees the top insurance companies e.g. Suncorp, QBE, IAG etc. This type of fraud is not victimless.

I would encourage you to inform the insurance company, especially since your conscience seems to be pointing you towards that action and furthermore go as far as to say you have a moral obligation to do so.

Psychoanalyse the hell out of the claim

        Oops, literal 'Freudian' slip there.

        • I blame Mother.

yes, report it. Ppl milking the system is the reason why legitimate claims are still so difficult.

The insurance company will of course want to know and have means to investigate. And yes, they can recoup the funds (or at least raise the debt) if they establish it was fraud.

Did you pay for it? Don't be a snitch the cops don't give you a medallion if you want do a good deed go feed the homeless .

    • no paid, in fact i did more than i should and recovered heaps of info about the person and lodged the report multiple times.

    • Why should OP have any loyalty to this crook? I wouldn't lose sleep over a fraudster who's making bank. Insurance fraud raises costs for everyone, and draws suspicion on legitimate claims.

      But sure, 'keep it real.'

  • What's the nature of the fraud? What was gained? What would have been lost if no fraud?

Obviously it's bad. But if he would have been homeless and destitute I might not report. If just greed as a motivator, I'd be tempted.

  • I think the most important questions are:

    What did he do
How did he pull it off
    How much did he get
Does anyone else know about this
And what state was it in, so I can perform it in a different one.

    Thanks in advance
