Navigating Tyre Retailers and Finding Deals

Need 4 new tyre for Ford territory.
Finding the search bamboozling in itself, then there's the selection of tyres and then there those retailers that give prices and those that want me to submit my details to be contacted (which I won't do)

So what is a good everyday economical / budget tyre ? (not putting on top tyres as car will be traded in this year), where are the best deals?!, Who can be trusted out of these retailers?

Bugger all going on in the way of ozbargain deals currently and the only cash back I see us beaurepaires… But I'm keen to consider flybuys , Qantas…etc…all and any deals in this inflated market for strips of rubber essentially..

  • Yokohama? Their types are cheaper and name are good too.

  • Goodyear buy 3 get 4th free
Hankook buy 3 and get 1 free
Tyresales.com - Great for getting an idea of prices and will also give you an idea of what is Good, Better, Best in terms to tyres

Tyrereviews.co.uk is good for reviews as well

  • I bought my last two sets from Tyresales and it went fine. I saved a few hundred without much effort. Just make sure they are fitted at a place that can competently align them after fitting. 🙂

I used to have SuperCats which were great value and now have moved on to Michelin. No problems with either.

I haven't tried this place ( tyroola.com.au ) but noted some good prices on their website when browsing last week… Seems to have a similar business model to Tyresales.

    • Did you stay to make sure they provided the wheel alignment?

I used one recently as well with great reviews but didn't stay the hour they took to do it all.

      • Yep, I usually sit and watch them do it… I tend to lean toward the places with laser alignment.

I probably can not get much productive done besides emails in that hour (no car and stuck in some random place) so just smash through some work on my phone whilst I wait.

  • Wow thanks guys that's Great, gives me heaps to check out this afternoon

    Looks that I specifically require 235 / 60R17 BTW

Current tyres are the above spec, maxtrek Sierra s6.

  • Costco could be an option if you are a member and have one close. They apparently include a wide range of "extras" like lifetime tire rotation and puncture repair. I've never bought from them so I don't know how true that stuff is but have had a few punctures recently so I'll definitely look into them next time I need to buy four tires. Hopefully they build another one closer to where I live. They are a bit far from me right now.

  • Just watch out for the BS retail prices and don't assume all shops accept the buy 3 get 1 free promos

  • It would be helpful to state where you live and the size of the tyre

    • Hi I'm in Geelong, driving 2006 SR SY RWD Ford territory, wheel/tyre specs I posted earlier above

  • +1

Tyroola via the SCA website for cashrewards.

Grenlander are on my kids Accord and i drove it yesterday after doing the back brakes (total cost $36) and it felt OK for the crazy cheap price the tyres were ($296 fitted per set 205/55r16. 4 wheel alignment $80)

    • This looks like the answer mate, thanks. Go via SCA where there are some good budget tyres and have them fitted locally, and a bit of cashback too

  • I've wound up going to mycar for 4 X DIAMONDBACK TR257 - 23560R17 106v.

    The tyroola quote for 4 X Winrun - R 380 235/60R17 102H fitted was $101 each

Called mycar to ask if they would match the winrun deal above, and they offered the diamondback for $100 each fitted, since they don't stock winrun.

I'll pay $69 on top of that for alignment

This seems a good deal, considering its excluded the tyroola shipping fee of $72

4 good tyres for $400 fitted
