    Look up Carsales

Buy a coupe or a hatchback from somewhere that sells cars (not Kmart or Coles)

Don't be a lazy so-and-so and put some effort in

    Buy a

  • Effort equals reward Alphabet.
Check out the automotive posts in this forum or head over to Whirlpool, they have an auto forum in there where your question is asked very often.

    Welcome to Ozbargain.
Where the choice of car between 10-20k
    Is a Corolla or i30
Honourable mention to FOG and Camry but they're not coupe or hatch.

  • +2

Corolla, Mazda 3, i30. You can get one of these almost new for $20k.

  • +4

    Should have chosen qwerty qwerty.

    Would have been quicker.

    • +2

maybe they type using an old-school Dymo

    Welcome to ozbargain.

Us ozbargainers love European cars because of the reliability and cheap service, i would stick to that. We hate Toyota's here.

    • I disagree. Indian and Chinese cars work just as well. I'd look into Great Wall or if you're happy to spend a bit, import a Tata from India.

      • +3

        No love for a LADA?

      • Hahahahaha… i wonder if anyone has ever privately imported a tata… like, ever. Imagine trying to convince regulators to get a Tata Nano on the Special & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS)

Buy a new Cerrato hatch. Best bang for buck.

The GT varient looks lit. So much want.

    My picks;
    Fiat 595 Abarth Competizione
    Hatch back (tick)
    Coupe (tick)
    $10~20k (tick)
    Italian (tick tick TICK!!!)
    98RON (tick)
    Turbo (tick)

Yeah, that's all I got for you. I don't know of any other worthwhile coups…

    • Tell us about the cruise control feature in this car 😁

And how reverse is where the 6th gear should be
      😎

      • +3

It's a "drivers" car. Cruise control is for wheel attendants.

And reverse is exactly where you would expect it (…in an Italian designed car). (Unlike the Mustang, where you have to push it over so far that it just about touches the passengers door, then up far enough that it hits the glovebox.)

But, if the Abarth is anything like my Sport (which incidentally is a 6 speed), you have to hold up a flange under the knob for it to go into reverse. Or maybe push down on the knob for it to go in.

    • You forgot chick magnet right?

      • But what if OP is into, you know…. "dudes" (*insert obligatory "not that there's anything wrong with that" commentary*)

Then again, I'm sure it would work well both ways… ;)

        I like coupes[toyota 86] and hatchbacks.

        Plot twist: OP is a hairdresser… :D

        • +2

Yeah pretty sure the 500 would bring the boys to the yard 😉

  • Few months ago son bought a demo model 2018 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport Auto sedan/ hatch (less than 100kms) for $25K all up from Patterson Cheney in Dandenong. You should be able to do an even better deal now.

  • Nissan Leaf. All fossil fuel cars are or about to crash in value

    • +1

      about to crash in value

With the recent problems with battery life in the Nissan Leaf making it out into the media, the only value that is going to crash is that of the Nissan Leafs. Can already pick up super low KM Leafs for under $15k.

Did OP look at the 1001 posts on this subject?

    Somebody asks almost every day!

  • Kamaz

    https://www.redbull.com/au-en/kamaz-truck-dakar-vehicle-prof…

"Overall, the Kamaz weighs in at 9.5 tons, but unlike regular trucks, it also boasts an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, which is perfect for handling."
    Screw those Toyabarus

    • Only thing, despite how appealing the truck may be, the buyer is seeking a coupe / hatchback. 😉

      • +2

        Its a 2 door!

OK fuel ecnomoy might be a bit lacking but nothing a K&N filter wont solve

"The Kamaz’s 13-litre Dongfeng Cummins engine runs on diesel, and it can drink up to 200 litres of fuel per 100km when pushed to its maximum. It’s enough to necessitate a truly massive 1,000 litre fuel tank, which is situated over the rear wheels to help achieve that perfect 50:50 weight distribution."

        • +1

Got me with the 2 door lol. 😁

          • +1

@JediJan: I think those are out of OP's budget… But all is not lost… If they go through the Army surplus auctions, they can buy a used Unimog, which is a very similar thing, and have that for under $20k.

Lots of "GET THE (fropanity) OUT OF MY WAY!!" street cred as well. 2 doors. Plenty of space. Sunroof. Hatch back. Be the envy of all your Landcruiser/Hilux owning buddies.

            • @pegaxs: Only if they replace the #12 badge off the front and replace it with "420" or "69". Finish it off with a chrome vinyl wrap, and a set of "rolling coal" pipes and a Confederate flag on the tail gate.

  • +2

Do you want to put a lot of stuff in your car sometimes? Drive more than 2 ppl?
make sure to check if the 86 has done their major service and changed the spark plugs around 95,000km. cost around $2000

  • +1

You can certainly buy a decent vehicle for that money but why are you considering a 35 year old vehicle.
The safety is just not there. The brakes are rubbish… the rings are most probably shot.. and other perishable materials ka-put

    • Joke would've worked better if you got your math right… 34yo vehicle

      • Joke would've worked better if you got your math models right… 34yo vehicle Toyota AE86

        FTFY…

        • marketed by Toyota from 1983 to 1987

Eh, my point still stands, 34yo vehicle = better joke, works on 2 levels

Don't be like this guy and get told "terrible things" after purchase!
