Have 4.5k Uni Fees Coming up Next Month - Best Qantas CC to Earn QFF Points?

Hello,

I am about to pay my 2nd Semes Uni fees ~4.6K AUD next month and would like to have recommendations which credit card should I opt for to gain best QFF points.

I am currently using Citibank CC which gave me 90K points; my annual income is $140K+ and my credit score is 800+ so eligibility won't be an issue I believe.

I have 170K+ QFF points and would like to have some reccos from here on choosing the best CC (reduced annual fee, maximum points). Do you have any recommendations? I believe this is the best one for now!!

TIA
K

  • Do they charge credit card fee?

    • You mean the University? Yes, and IIRC it is of negligble value

It usually is not negligible. Here's a rule of thumb - if you have to pay a surcharge of anything over 0.5%, it is better paying cash as at that point as the reward points are not worth the surcharge.

        Be aware YMMV though.

Why 0.5%? The points are valued at least 1 cent/point, so 1% should be the threshold (or closer to it at least).

          • @ronnknee: Hassle.

          • @ronnknee: Depends on what type of points and whether they expire/redemption potential/etc IMO…

… but what can really throw you off is if some cards only give you half or reduced points for certain categories of payments eg taxes. I calculated it out when I was thinking of paying my PAYG instalments with AMEX when I realised that it was a very bad deal.

        • Oh is it? Let me check it out once the Uni payment page opens. Thanks for the heads up.

  • This is my latest sign up bonus card: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…
You'll have to push ANZ constantly for them to process the card, their reason for the delay is the popularity of the offer.

And this one was my previous card: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/member-offers/ci…

    • Thanks mate. I have gone ahead with ANZ 425 CC. Waiting for the bank to respond. Submitted my application yesterday.

  • It's worth just hitting up the Qantas website and checking their credit card partners - they're usually up to date and it's nice having all the info in one spot:
    https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earning-points/c…

From there you can see which one will give you most points per $.

Also worth asking the question, but do you have to pay your university fees? Much better value trying to hold off on that as long as possible if you can, although on your income it probably would have to be paid this tax year anyway.

  • Anz qantas frequent flyer one is good. 120k QF points bonus and $275 cash back after 4k spend. Annual fee is about $440ish.

    • Thank you. Have applied for the same. Waiting for ANZ to respond.
