I payed $40 for Kingdom Come a while back :(

    • +17

I don't think anyone expected it will be free.

      • +3

but you can also play it on pc game pass

    • +1

Surely this won't include the DLC, which generally is very good. A woman's lot is particularly good and worth paying for.

      • How long is the DLC? I am considering buying it at next steam sale but I don't want to spent $20 for 5 hours of gameplay.

        • All the DLC combined probably over 10 or 15 hrs if you do everything without a speedrun.

    • If you played till the end it was definitely a great, refreshing RPG story and worth the purchase.

  • +8

WTF KCD for free, great game spent well over 100 hours one of my fav open worlds with witcher 3.

    • Yeah I'm still playing through my first playthrough.
Paid $20 something, no regrets it's free because it's excellent.

  • +11

    Current freebies are:

    Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/515969

    Don't forget to grab them.

    • Wasn't there meant to be a third game?

      • +8

They removed it, probably because real life was getting too real: Pandemic.

      • +5

Pandemic… Probably removed due to poor timing.

        • +12

Really? It's hard to imagine a better time for it!

        • bit of a shame it was the 1 out of the 3 i didnt already have on steam. ah well!

  • +2

    Epic!

  • +7

Kingdom Come is awesome. Very immersive experience!

  • -3

"if you're not paying for the product, you are the product"

    • +2

How does that work with something like, say, this free can of Solo?

      • +21

You don't drink the Solo, the Solo drinks you.

        • +3

          In soviet Russia, maybe.

      • +1

Viral marketing, no? People around the city will see others carrying/drinking from the can, you mentioning it on Facebook, bringing it up in other ozbargain posts, naming their profiles after it, etc?

For a company to pay a single can of soda pop per model, that's pretty cheap advertising I would think…

        • So you are saying that we are not always the product when things are given away for free?

          • @bargainpersona: You're either the product, or the advertising, when something is given away for free.

          • +1

@bargainpersona: Yep, some people are potential consumer. Like myself, I ended up enjoying the taste and bought a box

          • +1

@bargainpersona: If you aren't paying for the product, you are part of some scheme to make others pay for the product. More others, and/or more for the product.

Doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Lol

            • @So lo: Yeah, not quite as nefarious.

Interestingly, I see Jack D Price chose to upvote your previous as if it somehow validates their application of the quote.

      • It contributes to diabetes/obesity, and the diabesity industry is all the better for it.

        • Not sure how that is relevant - is this "diabesity industry" harvesting dysfunctional pancreases?

    • It's been out for a long time now. Give it away free and hope to hook a few more people into buying the sequel.

    • +1

get two games for free, or ponder some generic alarmist phrase (and miss out on two games).
      hmmmm

    • TIL I am "kingdom come deliverance"

Surely that will impress the ladies.

  • +2

Hell of a free game. Nice one Epic.

  • -5

    Expired? Mines says coming soon.

Edit: OP put dates in title please.

    • +3

It has a big banner saying "in 7 days" above the title.

    • +4

@JVs Apprentice: You should change your username - this comment is a disgrace to jv as jv would have never made such a trivial mistake but would have merely asked how much the normal price is. 😉

      • +4

At at least he is a loser like JV.

      • +4

And he didn't bold any words.

  • +2

Nice, KCD was a great game. Can't recall how much I paid for it but however much it was it was well worth it.

  • +1

Kingdom come is bloody awesome! Extremely unique game

  • +2

I got KCD for $12 and i still feel ripped off now that its going to be free

  • Damn.. I guess this will be getting me to install the epic launcher

Been on the fence of getting the kcd, but at this price!!

  • Kingdom has finally come! (To epic freebies and ozbargain)

  • Oh wow, this is an amazing freebie! I was going to pay $45 for it yonks ago.

  • +1

Kingdom come. Such a great game

  • +2

Henry has come to see us!!!

    • +1

      Jesus Christ be praised…

  • +1

omg how is this game free so good

  • +1

I really wanted to like Kingdom Come, but just couldn't. It just doesn't respect your time. Which is OK if you have a heap of time to devote to it, but I just kept thinking about all the other games I could have been playing instead so gave up on it in the end. I might go back to it one day when I retire and have more time to spend on it :P

    • +2

      How so?

You can stop playing whenever you like, even if you play on hardcore mode.

Its not a short game, but big RPG open world's are never short.

If you don't start enjoying it a few hours after the prologue, i would consider if its the game for you.

The freedom to do whatever you like is what makes the game so amazing.

      • +1

My biggest issue was the lack of easy save. For me I might get 15-20mins in a session before having to stop, so having to use up a save on that was crazy.

Did they change that? I played on release.

        • +6

Yes they did change that. But I also think a general understanding of how it works is required.

          1. You can exit save, this means you can exit and save whenever you want, it will cost you nothing.

          2. You can sleep at any Inn for a free save, you can buy permanent rooms at the Inns.

          3. You can sleep at a wide range of other random beds in the wilderness.

          4. You can buy savior schnapps, this is cheap and easy if you do any sort of thieving, or you can just steal the savior schnapps.

          5. You can brew it yourself, this can be a little tedious as it takes 30 seconds to make one. Once you get level 10 alchemy you can autobrew as many as you like.

          6. You can visit a bathhouse

          7. You can start a quest (Not sure if this is all quests or main quests)

As you can see there are endless ways to save, but if you didn't understand all these points, I can see how you would feel like you couldn't stop playing.

          • +1

@samfisher5986: Nice one! Sounds like I can jump back in. Thanks for all the info friendo.

          • @samfisher5986: (8) Download a mod from Nexus that allows you to save an unlimited number of times, even with no saviour schnapps.

    • +1

Same - and I threw a heap of hours at it … Just felt like the main story got lost amongst all the other side stories.

  • Goddamn. I wasn't expecting this one to go on sale. Already bought on steam 😕

  • Awesome. Just counted that I now have 78 free games in my Epic library as of today (not counting Kingdom come and Aztez). I think I have managed to grab every freebie so far, has anyone got more than 78 freebies?

    • +3

update: originally said 79 but there's actually 80

      • Took me a while to figure out what the problem is with this list, Celeste and Hyperlight Drifter are mentioned twice as they were both re-released for free.

I recounted my list though and seem to have 79 not counting the 2 double ups (both batman trilogies I counted as individual games).

So Im now not sure if I miscounted 79 total or if there is actually a game missing from your list.

        • I have 78 freebies. Which tracks with not counting the double ups. Make sure you haven't counted something that was free but not a weekly freebie, like Fortnite. I have 79 with Fortnite.

          • @bratgirl: I dont have fortnite or other permanent freebies. But I figured out what the additional free title was in my list, Shadow Complex Remastered, which was made available for free back in 2015 when I first signed up to Epic. I had to go into my list via web browser so I could sort by date ordered.

          • +1

@bratgirl: Thanks.. 80 free Epic Game giveaways. Not Including any of the free to play games + add ons.

            • @g12345567: Dauntless does not belong in the table.

        • Good catch.

I am pretty sure I missed 2 freebies, have 4 always-free games, and a total of 80 in the library. So now I am thinking your original 78 number was spot on.

edit: oh i see shadow complex… neat

  • +3

The fact that Lysander is directing people to the steam page for more info is a bit of a telling sign that Epic still need to up their game a bit with regards to the actual sales pitch for their store.

    • +2

Well, not really as the info seems to come from the publisher. I mainly do it so people do not complain and for the reviews.
And it is normal for every new store to need time to build up reviews as opposed to a store established 10 or so years.

      • +1

I mean more in regards to the complete picture for the game rather than the just the spiel. Reviews/Community/Player contributed images/video etc. Not saying this wont come eventually for Epic but I think it's a big part of what makes Steam so attractive.

        • Tbh i haven't bought on steam in years now. I have redeemed keys from other official key sellers though

          • +1

@justtoreply: I also don't think I have ever bought a game directly off of steam, although I have collected nearly 900 Steam titles now through 3rd party sellers such as Humble Bundle and Fanatical etc, plus stuff that was given away free for short periods. Crazy stuff as I really don't game that much but sometimes the bundle sales are just too hard to resist.

      • that's why Epic will never be as popular as Steam despite they keep throwing freebies like this

ie. for the same purchase, you'd get much more from Steam

anyway free stuff is always good

        • That's the case now, but all that is required for a company to get ahead is to offer something better than the competitor and eventually people will move to their product even if it takes a long time. Epic can see what the competitor has and what they need to aim for.

Lysander posts, game claimed, reminder set rinse and repeat

  • This has been on my wishlist for a while but always seemed too expensive even when on sale. This will be the first game on Epic store I will actually play

  • Hmm, remind me in 7 days?

      Use the reminder function, maybe?

      • Thanks for reminding me the reminder feature. :D

  • I never got past the monastery. Actually, I did make it out… but the monastery ended the game for me.

Most people get used to it, the prologue is not really representative of the game.

having finished the game and its DLC, i cant say i would recommend it. heads up, i'm going to shit all over it as a counterpoint for all the people recommending it - i think its best people understand potential gripes

the game conflates tedium with realism - it dresses up you being an inexperienced farmhand as '(profanity) you, animation lock' every time you get into combat for the first 5-10 hours - you literally cannot win fights, your attacks can not hit. again, i get it, 'i dont know how', but this isnt fun. converesely, lategame combat is a joke, and you can regularly oneshot templars with a lucky punch

multi-person fights are awful, archery is broken strong, there's no reason to use anything but maces, combos are completely unnecessary and rarely execute, you can win every single fight by not touching the mouse or moving and tapping parry.
stealth serves no purpose, light armour is moot, inventory management is Skyrim-tier, economy is easily accidentally ruined quickly, etc.

the game has nice shaders and decent lighting, but textures and models are nothing special, and look horrendous up close - it only looks decent in landscapes. voice acting is cheesy as hell, animations are very stiff, and frankly most of the story is pretty generic and predicatable.

i do grasp that this game is effectively an experimental first title by an independant studio.

if you're the sort of person that gets easily immersed in games and enjoys lots of dialogue and cutscenes, this game will be enjoyable
for people looking for interesting mechanics and depth, i wouldn't bother

    • Thanks for taking the time to share a detailed view.

Despite it's shortcomings, there must be some charm about the game given that you've finshed the game, and even the DLCs? (besides cutscenes and dialogues)

      • no worries, thanks for responding positively. I posted this on reddit and someone called me 'an insane retard'…

the game absolutely has charm and immersion - it builds a world pretty effectively, and the graphics are not terrible - the landscapes are rather pretty.
as such, its rather cosy to ride your horse across the map, which the game makes you do a LOT of.

some of the missions are fun, and frankly i found fun lategame by just going Postal on the whole map and starting town-sized fights with the guards. archery is fun in this way too - there's no cursor and lots of sway, so learning to hit long distance shots is quite rewarding.

henry is a generally amiable character, and gives plenty of laughs - you can't help but love his goofy, earnest approach to the world.

i really wish the mod scene for this game worked out, it'd give it so much life!

Don't forget to scroll down the Kingdom Come: Deliverance game page and grab the free DLC. HD Texture, HD Voice (English, German, French) and HD Sound packs. For upgraded game visuals and sound.

    • Thank you for the heads up!

  • Thanks OP!

  • Is any of the non-free DLC worth the purchase at 50% off?
