Business Advisory Company Somehow Managed to Find out My Personal Company Details via My Second Job Email Group

Hi everyone, Need some help with understanding how this company was able to obtain my personal company details via my personal work email at my second job. (There is no link between my company and my second job) and the email is only used to sign up to a few services. At my second workplace, I made an office365 distribution mailing list which contained some of my other emails for testing purposes before deploying settings to other distribution lists.

The question is how was this company able to find the distribution list without being in the organization? Note: this distribution list is set to public, but you would still need to know the group email to send stuff to.

Some possibilities of the company finding out my business are by looking at my LinkedIn page which lists my company and the company name of my second workplace. But then they could’ve just used the email provided in my BIO. Also if they were to find out details about my second job the domain name of the googled business name is different to the emails domain name.

The only services I’ve signed up for using my second job work email are:

• Tidal
• Spotify
• My Deals
• Mail Chimp
• Monday.com
• Deputy
• Kogan
• GitHub

The company that sent me the stuff does have an ABN and the images of the staff are not stock photos but the website is poorly made. Not responsive, Pictures are like 40px high for the BG and there is a bunch of margins which consist of white space.

They Might Be Using Commercial Magic.

@spackbace: IDK I Normally Type Like This When Creating UI Stuff So It's Like A Force Of Habit. I was under stress finding out why this company knows my group email when it is not publically out there. Unless my accountant is doing dodgy stuff and is selling marketing information for money.

            • @No Username: Or had their email hacked somehow? I'm just guessing that's all

            • @No Username: Why do you need to type like that when creating UI? Genuinely curious.

              • @raptormesh: Looks nicer IMO. Just take a look at how Oz Bargain formats their titles. It also makes important content stand out.

  • ABN Registration?
    ACN Registration?

Of the person who sent the email? or Do you mean they did an ABN lookup? But that wouldn't provide details about my second workplace email.

  • Some of these companies pay ASIC or another company who's paid for the complete list to get your details for marketing purposes. Assuming your business makes money they can make money off you.

    Get them all the time.

    • I understand that but to obtain an Email Group from my second job that has no mention of my personal company is a mystery.

      • Sorry my bad. It is a bit crazy if what you are saying is true.

  • Maybe going to UNI will help…
