Is iPhone SE 2 Worth Waiting for?

Hi Forum,

I sold my old iPhone recently in anticipation for the iPhone SE 2/iPhone 9, but I've been feeling pretty insecure with my spare Android phone… I find it awkward to not be able to tap the top of the app to go back to the top of the page, on top of that is the lack of a control center and spotlight search, which makes it hard to find apps. Tried Nova Launcher, just not right. Also tried Control Center, which would be ideal except it just crashes in a few minutes.

Should I buy an iPhone 8 or should I keep waiting for the rumoured new one? I really don't want anything bigger than a 4.7"… Or am I missing something on Andriod customisation?

Don't understand the small phone desire in this age of rich media consumption, but if you really want a small iPhone, it's rumoured to be launched in March so I would wait. Conversely, it might not even happen as has been predicted for few years now…

There's a lot of value in being able to text someone using only one hand, among other one-handed scenarios. Not everyone has huge hands/long thumbs to reach the other end of the device. I guess if you are one of those who sends voice messages instead of typing, it wouldn't bother you as much. When I need to consume media content, I use my tablet or computer.

Yes, the phone's been rumoured for a while now, quite a few friends are waiting for it too.

I too desire a smaller phone.

This has been possible on phones for a few years now. iPhones have a Reachability setting to allow one-handed use and even the keyboard squishes to the side for one-handed typing as per any small phone. I use it often and it's very much a non-issue nowadays.

        • Oh that's why my phone did the half screen shrink thing, I never understood it, thought it's a weird multitasking bug hahaha
That keyboard squish looks interesting, will try it in a shop next visit. Thanks for the tips :)

  • For me, no.
After going to a phone with minimum bezels and no buttons, i can NEVER go back to iphone 8 design. And lets not disregard battery life, iphone 11 lasts me a day and a half, and i almost exclusively use data.

Also, face id>touch id all day every day

    • Guess I haven't tried buttonless designs, I see the appeal, but that's not to say they can't make the same phone with a smaller screen, same with battery life and face ID.

    • among the rumoured SE deigns one will have Face ID and similar design (yet smaller) than iPhone X,XS,11 etc

Idea being that bringing out an SE means they can completely phase out selling any model with touch id while having a cheaper alternative to the current models

      • If the design is similar, that's acceptable.
But the rumoured iphone 8 design, is really bad.

I think the SE will be delayed to the coronavirus

    no 5G no deal

    • What do you need that much bandwidth for? Torrenting Linux distros? Streaming 1080p on a portable device doesn't really make sense.

  • better off waiting for the iPhone SE3

  • Why did you sell a phone you liked in anticipation of a phone that hasn't been released yet?

Because the price would drop once the new one came out :) Also it's nice to have the cash put towards the next one, instead of holding onto something thinking it might sell afterwards. Discounting cash will always win out than discounting gadgets IMO, no matter how low the inflation goes.

  • Isn’t the bigger issue that the new se is by all reports going to have a 4.7 inch screen not the superb 4 inch screen that I love so much :(

The small format is perfect for me but it looks like they’re going to do away with it

    • Yeah but 4.7 inch is as small as they can ever get, apparently. They are also dropping support for the original SE.
