2021 Holden Equinox

2021 Holden Equinox was revealed as its original Chevrolet variant in the USA. Due in Australia some time later this year. Looks pretty good I reckon.

  • Looks pretty basic and standard to me. What appeals to you?

    • honestly SUVs are just basic A to B cars imo. I like the design of this facelift obviously more than the outgoing one, and more than the sportage, tucson, forrester and the like.

      • SUVs range from basic to very expensive. You would be crazy to buy this massively depreciating pos over the other options.

        • I rate the RAV4 much higher than this (best in class imo), with the CX-5 second to that, thought it is too small. The others aren't so appealing.

The luxury options can be pretty much eliminated:)

IF Holden still exists in 2021…

    • very true - especially considering they cut their better sellers

I can see them just being absorbed and rebadged as Chevy in the near future, and all we will get in Australia is RHD versions of American market vehicles.

        • I would love to see the Chevy rebadge happen given that nearly all of Holden's lineup are actually Chevrolet vehicles

          • @jsrz18: GM/Chevy is struggling globally. You'd be mad to buy a Holden now.

I Suspsct GM will go to a single brand within 5 years.
Since offloading some brands last year, they are using the chevvy brand in more countries now.

I would anticipate Holden will fade away as a brand, the dealers will become a lot smaller and the chevvy badge will become the norm.

      Good call

    Looks very plasticky and Mercan

I really like American cars but I realised I'm retarded. The fact is you wouldnt chance Holden even if they went all out and offered 7yr warranty/roadside.

The reality is that the Asians have this market sewn up.

If you have a bit more money maybe a VW or that kind might suit you but how can you go past Japanese Korean on SUVs of any size?

  • +2

I think there customer service is enough of a reason not to buy, not to mention they amount of crap cars they have release under the Holden name in the last decade (Captiva, Cruise, Spark). There is a good reason Holden sales have died. Better off going Jap or Korean.

Holdens generally have crap resale because they tend to have terminal illnesses that make them worthless after a few years.

Have a look on gumtree and see all the $500 Commodores and Cruzes and Captivas with blown engines.

This is why you dont trust Holden or Ford. They made their own bed.

Now look at stuff like a 10-15yr old CRV or Camry. The Asians generally build cars that work.

There's no way out for Holden no matter how they revise their cars.

And this is from someone who likes V8 Commodores and I dont mind the design of some of their cars.

Funny, my D-max I bought new had nothing but ongoing DPF issues, spent a lot of time in the workshop and Isuzu were totally useless to deal with. The car spent a lot of time on the freeway, so not excuses for the DPF issues.

Traded it for a WN2 Caprice and it hasn't skipped a beat, despite previously being abused as a hire car and now being abused with bolt on mods and a tune…

So no, Jap is not always better than Australian built. That said, I wouldn't touch a high mileage V6 Commodore as the last reliable V6 they made was the VY2, nor would I touch their Korean or US models….

    • Holden hasn’t made an appealing car since the 1990’s. They are always, and I mean always about 10 years behind major technology changes. Saab has turbo 4’s in the 1980’s and it took Holden until 2010 to release one in a sedan. Even now they only sell SUV’s and utes. What happens when people switch away from SUV’s in a few years? SUV’s just seem like a fad to me. They use more petrol and really don’t have that much space inside. Women like them though because they feel higher up on the road. I personally don’t like SUV’s. I find them cramped inside considering how much space they take up on the road. I hate sitting behind them all the time because I can’t see around them. When petrol went from ~70c per litre to over a dollar I said to my friends that Holden needs to change the type of vehicles they are making… Holden didn’t respond to people wanting smaller engines cars. Even now they don’t have an EV or Hybrid. Before Christmas there was a 6 month waiting list to get a Hybrid Camry and Tesla is killing it. Holden is a badly managed company. In 5 years if electric cars can come down in price by another $10k then it makes more economic sense to purchase a fully electric car than a petrol car because it will be cheaper to run over 5 years. Where is a decent competitive Holden EV or Hybrid that can compete in 5 years? Hyundai has just released 2 EV SUVs and I’m sure they will look at the i30 line next for electrification. Holden just cancelled the commodore which couldn’t compete against the European cars. I hate to say it but these days Americans can’t make good cars. They don’t know how to innovate. How about a Hybrid Commodore to compete with Camry instead of cancelling it? Because it was too hard and they didn’t design a platform properly. As the article says, the biggest innovation is exhaust pipes and dark rims. Wow of course that’s where the industry will all be in 5-10 years…

      • I’m sure they will look at the i30 line next for electrification.

        The ioniq is here.

The biggest news regarding the 2021 Equinox is the launch of a new RS trim

    slow news day…

    • +4

      RS stands for rat shit.

  • Looks like a Kia so I guess their styling department knows what people are actually buying.

    • Looks like a Kia Daewoo

      FTFY…

I love the headline of the article that outlines the biggest, most interesting things about this vehicle…

      “Dark and quad exhausts”

Shut up and take my money!

    • kinda looks like they copied the front end of the Seltos which Kia copied from a Range Rover. I love the look of the Seltos as well tho.

    • Wouldn't call Peter Schreyer a styling department. He is a god of design but. Kia really scored, getting him on board

  • +1

I think Holden would kill for Kia's sales figures.

    Yes.

That sentence is weird and would be unthinkable say back in 2005.

  • Well it's not coming now. RIP Holden
