LG 55UM7400, Samsung 55 7100 or Hisense R6/R7 55?

Hey people,

As the title suggests, I'm tossing up between these low-mid range 55" runners. Totally understand they're not top end or anything, but would like some advice on what we think the best PQ and overall experience is like in relation to value for money. Trying to keep my budget around 800 give or take a hundred or two. I figured from reading it's best to avoid TCL and cheaper units from ffalcon and eko etc.

Smart features I'm not too worried about as we primarily use Chromecast for everything. TV will be setup with a Yamaha receiver and 2.1 sound so CEC and ARC reliability are relatively high priority. Most content will be from Netflix, Stan, kayo and casts from my PC.

Also, we are in Tassie, so some of those eBay deals from appliance central are N/A for us as they don't offer shipping here through the eBay store. Bummer.

  • Personally avoid LG unless its Oled. The 7100 is a decent tv for the price but doesnt support Wide Colour Gamut, Same with the R6. R7 does support WCG and also is 200 Hz which may of benefit if you are watching sports. Both R6 and 7100 ar only 100 Hz. Not sure about the LG though.

R7 offers good blacks for the price( i picked up the 75"). Not sure how the R6 compares with black levels. R7 also supports Dolby Vision and Atmos as well as HDR. Be aware some of us are reporting a glitch in video playback with the Hisense R series, where screen flickers for a split second. Seems only some of us are either getting the issue or notice it. I have yet to notice it on FTA tv or catchup. Only input via HDMI and possibly inbuilt apps.

  • Just purchased the 65 ru7100 Samsung. I absolutely love it. Don't really care about blacker blacks, whiter whites, warm blues or what have you.

You basically just want to think what you are expecting out of your tv personally yourself.

I'm gonna watch shows, movies and game on it occasionally, which it has done all of them spectacular well for an average viewer such as myself.

The smart features are good, tv response times are good (menu interaction), but something like a Chromecast or what have you will be better.

Paid $895 for the 65" delivered to WA from a recent ozbargain deal.

  • Yeh 895 for a 65" is a great price. I'd get that. Out of curiosity why would I avoid LG?
