Telstra Postpaid Plan Finished, What Now?

Hi all,

I've recently just come out of my 24 months BYO Telstra plan paying $49 a month for 60gb data Peace of Mind, unlimited calls and texts.

This was excellent as I was working all over the country for service and streaming services away from home, but now I have a job in my home town so can be a little flexible in terms of carriers.

I have access to Wifi at home and work, so data won't need to be overly massive either. I did see Boost seems to be the go to, but there is also Kogan and Woolworths, Aldi etc. or even JB Hifi port in deals?

Just wanted to get some feedback on what you guys are using and who I should port to!

Cheers

Maybe spend a few months switching between prepaid providers, if only to check available coverage and get a feel for your actual usage. You might find you need 60gb, or the Telstra network. Or 10gb with better coverage from a less obstructed Optus tower.

Porting between prepaid providers is easy and only takes a few mins (as long as they are on different networks), so you can take advantage of multiple new customer offers, such as the 1/2 price sims that are always on sale. Also note that you can keep doing this while swapping back and forth, and always be a "new customer".

If you can be bothered, you can keep costs under $15/month, sometimes way under depending on offers going around. Otherwise you figure out what you need and take your time looking for suitable options.

Excellent advice. I've been with Boost since forever, since the Telstra network absolutely rocks in the CBD, but dabbled a bit and discovered that Optus has far, far better service where I live.

..but don't go with Optus. Go with a reseller. Far cheaper.

    • Great advice thank you. I was going to go with the 12 month boost 80gb plan, as I have access to wifi everywhere but now thinking I might try the month to month offers with a few different providers. Thanks!

  • After my Telstra posted plan finish, I changed it to Telstra Prepaid, when there is the deal on the Telstra website, it's about $215 per year($300 normally), include 150G data and unlimited calls and SMS.

  • Telstra prepaid and boost IMO. Depending on what you actually use/need.

  • I've just discovered the Catch Connect new plan for $4.90. I missed out on the 100% cashback through cash rewards, however the normal $3.50 cashback seemed like a great deal so I've just purchased it.

Question, if I swap to another provider after the Catch initial 30 days, can I still port back to Catch and purchase the new customers plan for $4.90 again? (minus cashback) ?
