Breville BCG800 Smart Grinder - $199 Good Guys - Latest Mail out Catalogue - $165 with Price Match!

230

Hi Guys
Breville Smart Grinder

I bought this 2 weeks ago from myer on sale for 260 - the rrp is $299. I love the grinder, it's simple and easy to use, yet technically brilliant.

The good guys catalogue that came in the mail today in Brisbane shows it as a 'Hot pice' $199. I do not have access to scan the catalogue, perhaps someone else in Brissie does? I linked lasoo which should have the details up tomorrow, as the current catalogues on there end today.

This is an excellent price - the grinder is superb, don't think Breville and think crap, they've taken their coffee seriously and done some excellent R&D.

Jump onto coffeesnobs.com.au to get a review of the grinder.

Thanks to ng100 for the receipt scan - good for price matching!

The Good Guys I bought from happily discounted it further down to $165 without any bargaining.

    • oops, should've refreshed

  • you mean this one for $198 including free delivery? (well from random postcodes I popped in)
    http://www.billyguyatts.com.au/breville-smart-grindertm-with…

  • It's a great grinder, and that is an amazing price if you need something for an espresso machine. A lot of Breville stuff is junk but this is one of their Australian designed products.

  • That's awesome ng100 - great price!
Any chance you could post up a receipt?

  • If anyone can get this for a lower price please post your receipt.
I'm going to drop into Good Guys Tuesday or Wednesday

    • it's worth a shout out, but I doubt you'll get it for less than the $165 receipt posted up - that's nearly 50% of rrp

      • What is the best etiquette for getting them to price match.
I went into a store today (none in stock) and asked about price matching another store, and the salesperson didn't seem very happy about it at all, and suggested that they don't normally price match other Good Guys stores.

        • A price match is a price match regardless of which other store it comes from. If they have a price match policy, this will usually negate online stores, but if it's matching another brick and mortar store then the salesperson should suck it up, unless it's below their cost.

I guess it depends on whether you want the salesperson to be your friend or not - they might come across hurt or offended etc, but that's their problem not yours.

Others may have a different opinion.

  • damn i just bought one 3 weeks ago for $245 @ david jones

really great grinder, really great deal

  • How does this grinder compare to the Sunbeam EM0480?

    • +1

Smart Grinder - more consistent grind, easier to change grind setting - of which there's 25 steps, has a dosing function that is 'smart'
EMO480 - I have a friend with one, and whilst they're ok, they aren't awesome, it's manual dosing and restriction of settings to about 13 steps I think.

For the same money, you should go for the BCG800 (Smart Grinder)

  • Can anyone recommend a good place in or near the Brisbane CBD that would match or come close to this?

Also if you have one and don't find the grind fine enough there's apparently a "Shim upgrade" available - you need to take the burr grinder off and add some shim rings to it that Breville have been supplying (at least where this appears to have been reviewed in the US). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8piBChRggPM&feature=iv&annota… has more detail.

    Hi Davo-CC
Both myer and DJ stock this. Considering DJ are very open with their price match policy - try them.

Current stock should already have the shim kit fitted (mine did). According to Breville, they are fixing this issue in the factory, so shim kits will not be necessary soon.

For more info see the grinders thread over at coffeesnobs.com.au

    • Thanks Hatchy - I'd get it from the link that you posted but they're not available to mid-September and I have 2kg of Dibella to use here, my old grinder is dead so I'm keen!

      • Myers said no - they said buy price was above $220 but they wouldn't elaborate any further. I think it's a trip to TGGG tomorrow, hard to get out there during the week for me but the savings are worth it, especially as I'm buying two of them.

    • How could you tell the shim kit was fitted?

      • probably the only complete way would be to take off the bottom burr - do it at your own risk. It's a reverse thread.

  • Good guys Nunawading would not price match. Anyone successful price matching at any Good Guys in Melbourne?

    • Would they at least go to $199 - surely, seeing as it's in a brochure. Pay less pay cash…..

    • I'm not surprised to hear Nunawading wouldn't price match.
They're not much for such things, nor even their 'pay less pay cash' tagline.

I'll post again if i find a store willing to do it.

  • Best they could do was 191.90 so less than 5% off. No where near the $165 price on the uploaded receipt.

  • Shame, still it's a good saving off the RRP, and the general approx $250 that a lot of us have paid for ours.

  • Mechman323 - could you upload your receipt perhaps? That could be useful in my "DJ's negotiations"….

  • Sorry Davo-CC i didnt buy it. Good luck with your "DJ's negotiations".

  • any good deals on the bes900 machine?

    • I wish - that same good guys catalogue has them for about 1450 - not much saving off rrp.

I'm hoping that Myer may have them as a special, like when they discount all coffee machines etc.

It is a brand new product though, it's only had it's first shipment thus far.

  • Wow great price on the smart grinder. Also, is the Good Guys the 1st of the chain stores to stock the Dual Boiler? Looking forward to Myers and DJs stocking these, then it will be haggle time :)

    • check the Breville website - Myers and DJs do stock the BES900, but it's only selected stores.

  • Goodguys in Adelaide (Edwardstown store) gave it to me for $160. Didn't even view the receipt! Pooraka store also said no probs.

Could you please upload a receipt Harlott?

  • Just bought it from Highpoint Good Guys - $165, not really much bargaining, just a bit.

Damn he kept trying to upsell me with some coffee beans and the extended warranty, true to OzBargain from I resisted getting suckered into that crap. Then paid with my AMEX, points too woohoo!! :) Too bad about pay less, pay cash.

Coffee Beans from a Good Guys shop? You've got to be kidding!

  • Tried to get one today - two places, DJ's were out of stock and the Harvey Norman I went to said that they couldn't do better than $240… The guy had seen this thread too, they're onto you guys! Going to see if any others have this thing in stock up here, no GG's near me unfortunately.

  • Well managed to get two from The Good Guys at Lutwyche - that was the last two they had too, they matched the $165 when I showed'em a copy of the receipt. Thanks again to OP Hatchy and NB100!

  • I spoke to 3 different good guys retailers and none of them could tell me if there was a shim kit included in the grinders they had in stock. Is there an easy way to pick the difference between the two? As I normally only drink espressos I really need to make sure I get the latest model.

    • If it isn't fine enough for you when you get one, it's a simple thing to fit the shim kit.
Get onto coffeesnobs.com.au for more details - Grinders thread.

    • Johnperi01 - as far as I know all the recently shipped units have the shim kit fitted, they started doing this a little while ago. If you're unsure contact Breville and I believe they'll send you out one regardless - it's just some washers I think (see the video I linked to above), it should cover the bases for you.

      • Just to update my post - I used the grind to make espresso for the first time today (I just have a little 15 bar Sunbeam machine) and my experience was very similar to the women in the video above; the finest setting produces clumps of coffee which are too fine and were too much for the machine to handle so I'd say they have the shim kit fitted out of the box, it's just as they demonstrated after they applied their shim kit to their liking. I'm actually winding it 2 or 3 back from the finest espresso shot level to make it work properly, it's doing a really good job. If you can still get these things I 100% recommend it so far.

  • I was a little late to the party on this one…. this deal was for the Father's catalogue that finished on the 5th September. I went in a few days later and it was marked back at $299. I was lucky enough to get them to honour the expired catalogue price ($199), but couldn't get any more discount below that.

For what its worth, they said their 'cost price' was $215, but im sure they'd say anything to make a sale ;)

    • Just wanted to thank the guys who posted the $165
price/receipt from Good Guys as the Bankstown store was
happy to match it. Look forward to using it this
      weekend.
