    Judging from the number of response, I don't think dad would want a GPS :) But seriously, what's your budget and what's your requirement? I bought a Garmin last year and I can count the number of times I've used it with one hand. An Android phone with Google Maps voice navigation is a lot better with searching for a destination I found. Went to Queensland in July and drove around with the $99 Optus 7" MyTab (upgraded to CM7). Together with Google Maps that makes it a very nice GPS navigator :)

    agree with Scotty - let usage decide what you need.
    but if you really must go a GPS unit, it's worth looking for one with free lifetime map upgrades - I think Garmin are offering this at the moment.
