ANZ Breakfree Package Fee - Possible to Have Waived?

Hi,

My ANZ breakfree package fee is coming up as my 2 years fixed fee recently ended.

Has anyone had experience in getting the fee waived some how?

I don't even know whether it's possible or not, just hoping to get some insight.

cheers

  • I tried a few times 5 years ago and didn't succeed. Keen to know if it's possible

  • You need an ANZ credit card, well at least that was what I was told 3 years ago when I got the loan… would help I think if you had multiple ANZ products.

    • As in I'd need to sign up for an ANZ credit card to have a chance at having it waived?

      • yes, that's what I was told when I got the loan. so I just got the ANZ Visa platinum with no annual fee.. and I don't pay the break free package annual fee

The breakfree package already comes with offset & credit card included. How did you manage to waive the yearly breakfree fee by getting another card?

          • @GangGang: not sure I got the loan through a broker and he organised it .

            • @Archi: Decent deal. Lower rate home loan, no fee for offset & credit card. That's why you pay the annual fee.

  • Waived? unlikely but this issue usually fixed by other lenders which provide you with $2k towards fees when switching loans.

Anyway, i just called them and they said no.

"if you want the package, you need to pay the fee".

    • Do you need the package?

  • Refinance. ANZ is a (profanity) joke.

If you insist, go get an offer from St. George (who I'd recommend, I think 2.98 with no fees and roughly $100 once off establishment is achievable atm), HSBC or whatever.

Comparison rates in the mid 4% is a complete joke.

    • I spent two decades banking solely with ANZ for better or for worse. Went in with good job history, very reasonable deposit, etc.

All they'd give me was the shitty products around 4.3% comparison, with fees all over the place, expensive offset facility (doesn't break even until you have $30,000 in the offset!!!). Went to a broker, had multiple products at around very low 3%. St George- 3.04%, $100 fee for establishing the loan, and a $500 fee for something at the start which they waive if you ask. No annual fees, unlimited additional repayments, free redraw facility you can redraw as frequently as you like from without charges.

The big banks are relying on loyalty and laziness to sell you their awful products. Don't go for it.

Well I have been bugging them every 3 months for rate review and so far have been able to secure 1.65% discount variable so sitting on 3.14%. Yes I pay annual fee but pay no offset fee and credit card annual fee.

When I spoke with them just 2 weeks ago, I was advised they can't match 2.98% and clearly said this is for new customers only and this is how system works.

  • What's your annual fee?

I'd just shop around. You'll probably find 3%, no annual fees and a bonus for moving (1-2k) within a few hours.
