Living in London - Stick with Qantas (Gold) or Go with BA?

I'm moving to London as a Qantas Gold Member so will be flying a lot with British Airways in the future, mainly for leisure. Is is better to continue accumulating Qantas FF points on BA flights or start from the lowest BA member tier? Is there a difference in points / status earned?

There's more than one airline operating out of London's airports. Why not just get the cheapest flights and save real money upfront?

  • How long are you going for?
Why fly BA? It’s not a very good airline anymore.
It would depend which ticket class you buy, I don’t think the cheaper BA flights earn qantas points. As previous said I’d just fly with the best deal rather than be loyal to QF BA Avios or one world.
That said If you are going to fly BA I’d start earning with them.

  • If you are unaware, you can still use your QF/OW benefits while accumulating status on BA either with the card in person or allocating FQTP/FQTV through a TA. Both programs have a similar status structure with SC and TP, but comes down to what you prioritise: redemptions, status benefits, lifetime status etc. and more importantly if the 4 QF/JQ/3K ~ sectors are going to be difficult vs. the 2-4 BA/IB sector requirement. I've been BA Gold & QF Plat simultaneously for a few years, the home airline benefits are marginal.. fwiw now directing everything to BA after I hit QF LTG. If you're travelling a lot then this question would probably be better directed towards a frequent traveller forum than a bargain forum as there's potentially a lot of details to consider and better choices beyond BFOTD.

  • If you intend coming back to Australia in the long term stick with crediting qantas as you will continue to accrue status credits towards lifetime status

  • BA stands for “Bloody Awful”. Good luck with woeful service and awful food

    • I have flown BA a few times(in Biz) found them fine.Food was good, staff where really good as well.(flew out of Narita to LHR) this was a code share flight with JAL.JAL is very, very good. The best though? SIA without a doubt.Great inflight cabin service, great Business class product as well,Qantas is nowhere near as good as them.
