Transfer Flight in Abu Dhabi with 2 Months Passport Validity

I am a Lithuanian citizen going from Sydney to Lithuania but my passport is expiring in two months from travel day. I will travel to Lithuania to change my passport via Abu Dhabi and will only change plane and will not leave the airport or enter the country, only transfer from 1 terminal to another. Can anyone please advice if that is ok to transfer in Abu Dhabi airport with 2 months passport validity. Thank you!

It is up to the airline, based on your next flight destination.
If you hold a Lithuanian passport and your next flight is direct to there, shouldn't be a concern.

  • its fine.

You can check it here using the same system (TIMATIC) that airlines use for checking visa/passport requirements. I entered your details and it said everything was fine, no passport validity requirement for UAE transit.

    • never heard this website before. thanks.

But it doesn't seem to care or check passport validity.
for example, usually you cannot go overseas even with a valid visa if your passport is going to expire within 6 months.
But the website doesn't indicate that.

it depends on the country. as an example, Australia is ok with foreign passport less than 6 months expiry.

      • It does take that into account when it asks you for the expiry date of your passport.

    • Thank you, I checked and on the top shows “you might have problems in Abu Dhabi because passport should valid 6 months…” :(

      • You need to select multi segment and add SYD-AUH-VNO with a connecting time of 3 hours.

        • Sorry, my bad. I accidentally selected Apr 2021 as your passport expiry. You will definitely have a problem. Try speaking to UAE consulate here to see if they have any way around it. I have had the 6 month validity rule waived by another country once before.

          • @donga100: Thank you for your advice! I will try to contact UAE consulate and will see what is the solution. Because I thought I am only transferring from 1 gates to another gates, and shouldn’t be any problem.

  • Yes, Australia is fine, and Lithuania will let me
in also, because I am going home to change my passport, but I am worry about transfer in Abu Dhabi, I checked and it is showing passport needs to be valid. I hope that whoever will work that time at the airport will not stop me or hold me…

No-one checks your passport in Abu Dhabi as you are not entering the country.
The airline staff will check it for your next flight, and if that is direct to Lithuania it will not be a problem.

      • Is this actually true?
I mean I was concerned about being checked at customs transitting via UAE Dubai or Abu Dhabi based on my birth location shown on my current passport and this is with valid australian passport

  • Wasn't aware OzBargain was the number one site for these sorts of questions (the OP only joined today …)
