PayPal, Transferwise or Citibank Borderless Transactions

I want to buy from someone i know as f&f in the usa obviously as its not someone here there is fees to use my card with paypal. I normally use my card to do conversion as its always better. In the past maybe its changed now but if i had done it wuth my bank account what you was supposed to be charged was always more.

Using paypal conversions was normally crap anyway.

I use transferwise to move money around but i dont or have not used it to pay a person in the usa. My question is as i have a transferwise account what do i do to get usd into my transferwise account and then what happens i need that persons bank details to pay right?

What if i have citibank account this borderless account not sure how that works also but is this better.

I just want to send a payment to guy in usa with least fees possible or maybe least hassle and was curious of the best options. Paypal would be easy but not sure how they all compare overall fee wise and over all costs.

  • use a card with no conversion fees?
or ask them to make a transferwise account and you just need their email address. tw has a page on this

    • Well the Citibank has no fees.use the card where? Im not sure they would want to make a transferwise account but is transferwise well known in the usa? Why would i just need there email address.
Im confused i already have transferwise account but i use to send from one country to another and its set up for the othe.
Not sure w what page your referring to.

      • I meant use the card with paypal, but don't use the paypal conversion rate. But it sounds like you did this anyway, my bad.

transferwise has info on how to send money to people. its such a common thing that they would spell out with everything you need to know

        • The person did not want the hassle of giving details but does have on site and let me order this way so cutting out fees from PayPal, when it comes to using pp I always use my card to pay and not pp exchange crates as ends up more. Obviously when I'm paying overseas using the card pp get you withna fee on using that.
But be good to see other options with others overseas being able to use transferwise instead.

As my transferwise is registered with another country maybe I need to open another or change it to here. And is this new debit card transferwise use available here yet?

Yes - you need their bank swift code/routing number and account number. I've done it before, it works fine. The recipient might pay an incoming wire fee.

Paypal would be easy but not sure how they all compare overall fee wise and over all costs.

Just comes down to how much you're sending. Paypal works out 3-5%. If you're already set up with transferwise, that's the way to go.

    • Thats if person is ok giving that info bank details, thats not cool they might get incoming fee i thought im paying it all and then if case they dont get the true amount.

Im set up with transferwise but its probably overseas and not here so im sure i can only receive to here not send from here to others if that makes sense.

      • Thats if person is ok giving that info bank details

If they're not giving you bank details, then something like PayPal is your only option. Payment platforms like Venmo are popular in the US, but I don't think Australians can use it easily.

thats not cool they might get incoming fee

You really can't control these things. It's a big conspiracy by the banks to keep international transfer fees as opaque as possible. Once you have the bank details you could try to google it, to see if that bank charges incoming wire fees and then add it on.

Another thought is to just pay them in amazon gift cards. Easy to buy online with an Australian card and easy for someone else to use, but really depends how much we're talking about.
