I saw a post on r/vegan for a girl giving her new cookbook away for 1 day only. It will become full-price tonight.
I've downloaded it and it looks very high quality. Be sure to give her good reviews on Amazon/Kindle and an up-vote on Reddit :)

jv - it might be worth looking into getting that keyboard of yours replaced finally - it's been randomly bolding words for years now mate.

      • -5

        They are not random.

        • +8

Keyboard is easier to change than getting a brain transplant.

Perhaps because Indian cuisine is one of the most vegan-friendly in the world, particularly South Indian food.

        • You're wrong here in my honest opinion. There's hardly any vegan population in India, while a massive % is vegetarian. If you go to any Indian restaurant, you will find a long list of vegetarian dishes and meat dishes but not vegan. The main reason being dairy is a big part of Indian diet (all regions of India).

          • -3

@virhlpool: How? They worship cows, surely won't milking them.

            • -1

@TEER3X: They worship cow, so they don't kill them. They raise them and milk them though. Cows and buffaloes are the main animals used for milk/ dairy and milk production of India is very high, so is milk consumption.

          • @virhlpool: i wouldnt say all regions, definitely not a big part in the south. there's not many South Indian restaurants in Aus which is a shame.

          • @virhlpool: Yes and out of that long list of vegetarian dishes a large number of them are incidentally vegan, while all of the others can be made vegan by asking them to omit dairy/ghee etc. For example all of these dishes are vegan 99% of the time (even though it won't say 'vegan' on the menu): Veg biryani, dal, aloo ghobi, channa masala, dosa, roti, parantha etc etc.

      • +14

Yes, I downvoted you because of your ignorance

        • Can you elaborate further? Because they seem to be pretty correct. Even Jains whom are known as the most creature-loving and 'do no harm' believers still consume milk and are vegetarians not vegans.

The 'star recipies' list are pretty much normal Indian dishes made for Vegans. Of course Indian vegans exist but it's not a specific cuisine.

          • @Hybroid:

The 'star recipies' list are pretty much normal Indian dishes made for Vegans.

That's pretty much what I would have expected. Not sure why that is not supposed to exist.

Should they have called it "Indian food made for vegans, but not as a specific cuisine"? I think the actual title sounds a bit, uhm, better.

          • @Hybroid:

There is no such thing as Indian Vegan

And yet, somehow this recipe book exists!

          • @Hybroid: So his ignorance to the existence of those Indian vegans was deserving of a downvote.

      • +4

        Seems like you did.

    • +2

Sir, these are indian recipes for Vegan

      • Have you been to Vega ?

        • +2

99% of your comments doesnt make sense and this is one of them…. I dont want to waste time to negging you

          • @desparito: I don’t understand you???

            • @jv: good, keep thinking what i was trying to convey for the rest of the day!!!!! take a break from OzB for the day

Never seen a non chinese working in a chinese restaurant.
Never seen a non-malaysian working in a malaysian restaurant.
Never seen a non-thai working in a thai restaurant.

I mean, whats even your point. People generally tend to gravitate towards people that are like them or are similar in upbringing.

      • +3

Yeah, just the way 1 Aussie employed as manager/owner the next thing is all employees are Aussies …. lol

Thanks OP, looks amazing. Karma free food :)

  • +4

Awesome find. Love Indian food. I usually don't use a recipe though, just go to the cupboard and fridge and see what takes my fancy that day. These recipes will be good to make me think in new directions.

  • -7

Thanks, OP. This is interesting because there's hardly any vegan population in India, while a massive % of the population is vegetarian (many people from other countries don't know about this). If you go to any restaurants in India, you will find a very long list of vegetarian dishes and some meat dishes (not in pure vegetarian restaurants, which many are) on menu but not a single vegan dish. The main reason is that dairy is a big part of Indian diet (across all regions of India) - pretty hard to think of any Indian dish (including dessert) that can be prepared without butter, paneer (cottage cheese), ghee (clarified butter), curd, buttermilk or milk.

    • +2

How many times are you going to post the same thing in the same thread, over and over?

Everyone knows there's lots of vegetarians in India. Who cares?

      • -1

It got hidden once due to many negs in the comments above if you noticed. Thanks for policing.

Everyone knows there's lots of vegetarians in India. Who cares?

You surely didn't know that cows in India are used for dairy though not for meat. (refer to your comment above)

        • +3

I was making a joke dingus

So it gets negged and you decide to repost it

Do you think there was a reason it got negged so badly, dingus?

    • What in christs name is your point? Your entire post is irrelevant to the deal. If you're a vegan who likes Indian food then this deal suits you, otherwise I couldn't give a rats arse about how many people in india drink milk.

      • My whole point is that it's hard to find 'vegan' food in Indian restaurants (all that is available is 'vegetarian') or even in India and hence this is a great book/ deal. I thanked OP for the same. No christs name anywhere, nor the data on people drinking milk.

        • +1

If the food doesn't have dairy or meat is it considered vegan?

          • @RSmith: Basically no animal products, yes.

            • +2

@virhlpool: Then I think lot of Indian food can be vegan friendly

  • +3

I find the best vegan dishes/vegetarian disshes are indian…so nice!

    • The beauty of spices~

  • +2

This is awesome. Totally love the veg/vegan Indian cuisine!!!

    • +3

I'm looking forward to trying that one out myself.

      • +1

I use this website to cook Indian vegetarian recipes- https://hebbarskitchen.com/
pretty good website with step by step instructions along with images

  • -4

Don't do it! If you know anyone who's vegan, you should be smacking some sense into them instead of enabling them!

  • missed it!
