IKEA Dubai to Let Customers Pay Using Their Time

IKEA Dubai is running a campaign that will allow customers to spend their time as a currency, simply by showing IKEA checkout staff their Google Maps timeline, which proves how much time they've spent travelling to IKEA stores.

We will love to have this promotion in Australia. Will we be lucky?

  • As someone who's nearest Ikea is 2.5ish hours away, this would be great, but I'm not holding my breath :)

    • now timing how long you can hold your breath for ikea currency would be something i'd watch

  • so they've worked out the longer you spend in store, the more nic-nacs you buy.

    • I think they worked that out a very long time ago which is why the stores are a one way, long way round about rather than isles or departments.

    • There's a reason they serve food and drink at each outlet.

      • Yes for those poor souls that either never find the exit or get divorced over the resulting arguments and need somewhere to live. It's why they really have all those little displays set up like apartments.

  • +2

Does it include time trying to find the exit?

    • +1

They'd go under paying for that.

Just another short lived promotion. Or the cost is baked into the price. Unless Ikea is getting reimbursement from the time cops.

Something tells me Ikea won't value my time at the same rate I do.

  • Probably easier to do that when your country runs on slave labour

  • This seems easily exploitable by using a fake GPS location app.

    • probably be capped AND not be a great deal afterall.

  • What if you go to an Ikea in another country?

  • AFLW take note.

  • Dubai is a bit smaller
some guy could drive from Darwin to Sydney ikea and prolly get the whole store free
