Car Subscription Service

Came across this article on Nissan starting a car subscription service. Any clue if something similar is available in Australia or if companies have any plans to start something soon ?

    • I agree. It is no different and with this you are tied into Nissan cars only. If you live in the inner city you if you rent / car share / GoGet etc seldomly you might actually save money.

"Nissan Switch has two tiers: the $699-a-month “Select” plan, which includes the Altima, Rogue, Pathfinder, and Frontier; and the $899-a-month “Premium” plan, which includes the Leaf Plus, Maxima, Murano, Armada, Titan, and 370Z coupe"

BHAHAHAHAHHA $900 a month for a miserable Leaf, hard nope

Well you have to work out what a car's true cost is normally. I think many people would be surprised how much their car actually costs per week.

      $30,000 car with no finance owned for 5 years is $6,000 pa + rego & insurance (let's say $1,500 to be conservative) + fuel ($50pw = $2,600) + servicing & tyres (lets say it averages $500 pa) = $10,600 pa = $883 pm

That assumes $0 value after 5 years. You need to take into consideration the depreciation.

Yeah true… lets just say it costs a lot more than most people realise.

But I always buy used and cash, thats just silly money for a mediocre car, you're right, costs more than people realize.

      • fuel ($50pw)

Article doesn't mention fuel being included, which could mean your $883/m becomes $663. Add the ~$10k value on the car after 5yrs = ~$166/m = ~$500/month

  • THere is a company who has been doing this in a few states already. I looked it up, seemed too pricey to be viable
