eBay seller sent me wrong item when I requested return item they accepted but seller won't send a return postage

I purchased an $120 item from an ebay seller in Japan. I received the wrong product model (same product but wrong model) so I opted to return item on ebay. I got email from ebay that the seller accepted the return item but seller won't send a return postage. I am now meant to send the item back before the 27th feb.

Is this some kind of scam?
What is the best plan of action for these situations to get my refund?

Did you pay by PayPal? They offer free returns.

    https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

    • This is good, but you would have to activate it before making the purchase.

Tell eBay the seller should responsible for return postage, eBay will ask you to wait until seller agreed. If seller doesn't agree eBay will step in

seller has already agreed to return item until that time there is the message
"If you don't hear back from the seller, we're available to step in and help by 26th Feb"

but after that if the seller won't send return postage the message changes to
"The seller is still responsible for return postage costs, so contact them to arrange return postage. "
I have contacted them but no response.

and there is no way to contact ebay directly about an order.

@happirt: What are you talking about? Why are you being so combative? What answer do you want?

The first link on Google when searching for "Contact eBay" goes to here:

                https://www.ebay.com.au/help/home

Down the bottom there are contact options by phone or chat. You can then tell them your order number, they will pull it up, and you can explain your situation to them. And then they will tell you the same thing again (the seller is responsible for postage costs). If the seller doesn't cough up a return label eventually, then eBay is likely to just force a refund.

I cant remember exactly what happened when I needed to return something to a non-responsive seller but I think it was like I requested a return/refund for the wrong item > seller approved but never replied with return details > wait until xx date for ebay to be able to step in to help like you mentioned above > contacted ebay asked them to send me sellers return details/label > returned item > tracked the return until it reached the seller.

In my case it was 'awaiting pick up from LPO', so again I called ebay and asked them to look into it and they refunded me the money as technically it was returned.

Extract of the email from ebay:

        Hi xxxx,

Thanks for providing tracking information that shows the item was successfully returned to the seller's address. We're sorry you had a problem with this purchase.

We've issued a refund of AU $xxxxxback to the original funding source you used to purchase this item. The refund includes the purchase price plus original postage. Please allow 48 hours for it to go through.

Have a dig around abt in the resolution centre and you'll find ebay's contact methods.

        Good luck

i think even with this OP still think it is not helpful too. Unless you are working in eBay and give him direct help.

@SnoozeAndLose: Yeah, I can see his sh*t attitude so he can get stuffed.

    • Seller said they would pay confirming what was in their listing. They didn't. Rang Ebay and a week later got the money from them. I thought about just using Paypal returns but decided Ebay should know about it. Left a negative review as well, first one ever.

Ok, I give up on helping, good luck. Someone can point you to a better direction.

you said 'and there is no way to contact eBay directly about an order.' but there is a way to contact eBay.

On phone or by chat, you just need to select your item.

Wasted too much time not being appreciated.

@happirt: You don't own any part of this thread except for the words you write. Your words are quite spiteful for someone asking for help.

@wendellX: maybe for someone with sensitive feelings or someone who thinks clicking random urls is a good idea.

ill try to tone it down a bit for them

                  • @happirt: You were so fragile and insecure you took a good humoured attempt to help as trolling you lol.

  • Unlikely to be a scam run out of Japan, but return shipping is a semi-scam within ebay. They allow sellers to send items by surface taking 60 days but if you want a return you might have to cough up tracked fast airmail to prove the return. Sellers can stall for time until the return window runs out.

  • Should have requested a refund from the very beginning.
You did not receive your item you paid for simple as that.
Not your problem if they sent the wrong item.
If they want it back they are 100% liable for postage costs.
