TRS Apple Purchase (Sell Headphones before or after)

Hello I bought a new Macbook Pro under education pricing and it comes with free beats. I'm going to sell the beats, can I still claim on TRS if an item in the invoice worth $0 isn't with me at the time of claim? Does anyone foresee any issues with this?

EDIT: Ah, it looks like they listed it differently on the invoice:

I'm guessing I'll need to show the headphones based on this.

"the item is worth $0"… think there's your answer

They would need to see them, but in saying that the item has a value of $0 so there is no GST to claim in this instance

They would need to see the macbook but wouldnt need to see the headphones.

      Sell away

can I still claim on TRS if an item in the invoice worth $0

Yes, you can still put a claim in for the headphones. The amount you get back is calculated by taking 1/11th of the total price.

    So it is 1/11 x $0 = $0.00

(You can still claim on the macbook itself though)

That means you'll only get GST for the item you have with you. That is $127.19.

Unless they don't ask to see some items (which has happened to me many times).

  • One of my TRS experiences had me claiming all but one item on the receipt, with the last being too big for carry on.

They proceeded with the claim as the claiming/remaining items where above the threshold, and were hand-carry sizes.

Also, as others have said, no tax on $0.

      • You only get GST back on items you wish to get GST back from. So your claim is only GST for the first item.

You could've easily bought lollies in that invoice but they'll still only refund GST on o first item.

  • I think what you mean is whether you can claim GST back on an invoice if one of the items is $0, or if you need to present every item on that invoice.

The answer to that is, no. You do not need to present every item. But you will only be able to claim GST back on the items that you present. In this case, as the headphones are shown as $0, they won't attract a refund regardless, and not presenting them will not pose a problem to the refund on the other items. Therefore, feel free to sell the headphones early.
