Parcel weight 580g... Some advice needed?

Hi All

I need to send the parcel with the weight = 580g .. just 80g above the express post 500g satchel.
What would happen if I send the item using the 500g satchel?

Has anyone got any experience from it? Can I get away with it without using 3kg satchel?

Many thanks

  • You get charged a little extra for exceeding the weight limit, but I'm not sure how much, maybe 1 or 2 dollars extra.

    • Can I go to post office and pay an extra… I don't want it to go missing

      • If you don't want it to go missing, then you shouldn't be using the riskiest postage method that has NO compensation if something goes wrong.

If you want "safe", send it Registered. If you want "fast and safe", send it Platinum Express.

  • In my experience, it could go either way. I've had things that were similarly overweight go through but I've also had them pick up on it even if it's just a little over, and send me the bill. The good news was that the bill they sent me ended up only being about $3 ($1-something plus fees) so that was a better option than buying the bigger satchel. That's me though so ymmv.

  • smash it man just send it
    $1.01 you will be fine

  • Otherwise I can put it one the BX1 Ebay Box for A$6.50
    but not an express post

  • +1 to the above(s),
just use the 500g satchel, many times from my local post office, as long as it feels and fits in the 500g satchel it's fine

  • Very rare for someone to actually take the time to weigh every satchel. Unless it is very obviously overweight it should be ok.

Those more to pay notices they send out were not monitored for payment back in the old days, not sure if they do it these days? I doubt if they would as it would be more trouble than it is worth for them to do it.

  • +1

i cant remember the last time i sent something in a 500g express bag that wasnt over 500g.

dump it in a yellow post box, theres no narky employee there to weigh the bag - 100% of the time my parcels have gotten to their destination no problems.

  • Worst case scenario, you'll receive a bill in the mail for the extra post cost, plus somewhere in the vicinity of $2.50 'tax' for it being underpaid.

You don't necessarily have to use a satchel - there are express post stickers that you can use on a regular parcel. If you use a box though, just be aware of cubing, which may increase the price.

  • Thanks for all the advice… will try next time
